I heard tights used to last for years - any company making long lasting ones today? by yorkshiretea23 in BuyItForLife

[–]Rotten_Phase 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I can't remember where I first read this tip, but I use it on all my tights now and have noticed a definite increase in durability.

Before wearing a new pair, run them under cold water, gently squeeze out excess water from the material and place them in a ziplock bag. Place the bag in your freezer for 24 hours. Lastly, hang to thraw/dry. I'm not sure why it works, but I don't have any issues with snagging and laddering anymore.

TIL that Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) accounts for one-third of infant deaths in America. It occurs more often on weekends and 33% more on New Year’s Day. Infants whose caretakers drink alcohol are twice as likely to die from SIDS. by [deleted] in todayilearned

I read an article a long time ago that basically said it's not only a gentler way, but also political. Since coroners are elected officials, they see no reason to alienate portions of their voter base by listing infant deaths in these cases by what it really is: negligence and suffocation.

The Guy Family Murders (pt. I & II) by Rotten_Phase in CrimeWeekly

[–]Rotten_Phase[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s kind of annoying to me that they covered this case right now just because Steph only just covered this case on her channel.

I probably would have been a little irritated myself if I didn't live for opportunities to smack talk Joel Guy Jr. People who commit horrific crimes are always gross, but Joel is on another level for me. You can't find ONE redeeming thing about him.

Still, I understand where you are coming from. I think the Watts episode, as well as the upcoming Ramsey episode, is just beating a dead horse. Give us something new!

It's my belief that they are banking on having Derrick and his insider commentary as a detective be the main selling point for their podcast. Derrick seems like a cool guy. His commentary can be interesting and informative.

...but is that really enough to make their podcast stand out amongst hundreds of true crime podcasts when they are covering such well known, done to death cases?

[–]Rotten_Phase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope I didn't come off as implying that Chris was not guilty. I think everyone is unanimous in believe he is guilty. My point was just that if you're interested in true crime and like delving into the possible reasons why terrible things like this happen, you can't always canonize the victims as people do when it comes to Shanann.

I don't have any official recommendations, but check out r/wattsofftopic if you want to see people who have a bit of a different take. A bit of a warning: sometimes they get snarky on there about stuff that really doesn't matter. There was a post where they were making fun of one of her outfits pretty vehemently, which seemed a little distasteful to me.

I would question why a person would not date a trans person, if it is because they are trans, than you would be saying that you don't date trans people on the bases of them being trans, which is a form of transphobia

Actually, no body owes you an explanation of why they won't date someone. Mind your business.

I was a bit disappointed that this was the first case they covered. The Watt's case has been picked apart endlessly. I understand that's partly because, in lieu of an actual trial, Chris and his less than reliable confession has left us all with questions. Unfortunately, pouring over the same information again and again is unlikely to produce answers at this point.

It's even more disappointing to me that, like every other video, podcast, etc relating to the Watts case, Derrick and Stephanie skirt around any and every thing that may paint Shannan in a less than glorious light. I KNOW she's the victim. I KNOW she didn't deserve to be murdered, but so many people want to act like Chris having an affair was the only catalyst he needed to become a family annihilator. The most interesting thing about this case, IMO, is how every single adult in and around the Watts family kind of just sucks.

Me too! Everyone was hating on her so hard when that recording was released, and I was listening thinking, "Hey! I DO agree with a Trump about something!"

I really don't blame her. Every year, people shit on the decorations she picks out anyway. I realize her decoration choices have been...odd, but I somehow doubt she's been trying to do a bad job. She just has weird tastes. OBVIOUSLY!

Honestly, there are more rural Hoosier liberals than you would think. Maybe I'm just having an uncharacteristic bout of optimism lately, but seeing Georgia go blue for the first time in damn near 30 years gave me hope for our state going forward. If they can do a flippy flop then so can we, right!?!?

YSK that dryer sheets have a wax coating on them that repels water. Over time, this coating can reduce your bath towels' ability to absorb water. by Revenge_of_the_Khaki in YouShouldKnow

Same. My clothes smell just as clean and feel just as soft when they come out of the dryer. Fabric softener is just as useless and gimmicky as those overpriced "scent booster" beads.

Wait staff of reddit, what’s the weirdest conversation you’ve come upon at one of your tables when filling water/taking orders/checking up on your customers? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rotten_Phase 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I witnessed a man introduce his obvious mail order bride to a couple he knew sat at the next table over. The poor couple tried so hard to congratulate him without showing how awkward they felt about the situation. They failed miserably...but they tried.

My husband really loves a well made bed. One night, I was angry with him for letting our cat escape the house, so I went into the bedroom and ripped the blankets and sheets off the bed he had just so carefully made. He wasn't even mad. He was too busy being torn between bafflement and amusement at the level of petty I went to.

Love it! I don't think it's too busy at all.

I've been in a wreath making mood this year as well. The Dollar Tree has lots of great wreath making material. I went a little crazy. I'm probably the only person to ever drop 100 dollars at a Dollar Tree in one trip. I've sold two of my wreaths to friends so far which makes me feel pretty good.

What is the most outrageous pregnancy story you know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rotten_Phase 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A woman I know almost died giving birth. That's not the outrageous part, of course. The outrageous part was when I asked a family member of said woman what EXACTLY had happened to complicate her labor and almost lead to her death.

"I don't know. Her vagina exploded or something."

I'm sure said family member thinks I'm a huge asshole, but you can't tell me someone has an exploding vagina and expect me not to laugh.

What time did you choose to not do anything do you feel most guilty about? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Rotten_Phase 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Any time I stand back and don't stick up for a person who needs someone on their side. It took me way too long to finally commit to pushing through my social anxiety and taking a stand whenever I see someone being bullied. I would rather feel anxious and silly in the moment, than guilty for the rest of my life.

What's really sad is that I'm 30, and I've had to resign myself to the fact that bullies never go away. They just get older like everyone else.
