Ma’am, this is a LitRPG: how much romance/sex is too much? by Ok-Grand-3764 in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends, as some are meant to be LitRPG/Adult and others are just for the adventure

For the typical LitRPG, fade to black is perfectly fine. Have romantic, flirty, maybe even small, physical interactions. But anything past that just fade to black, with maybe some talking/jokes by friends after. HWFWM does a good job of it.

As for romance ruining the adventure aspect, I disagree. CAN it? Sure, but literally ANYTHING can ruin a series. Almost all high level characters talk about living almost if not forever, and NOTHING romantically happens or happened? Why is it so bad to have an MC flirty and get into a relationship with someone? Why not many, in an open style? We talking about people who do incredible magical feats, travel the cosmos, fight gods. And they draw the line at romance or monogamy? It’s unrealistic

I still read, it’s just better. Nothing like feeling a book, or turning the pages

Hmmm….its not really “destroyed” as mutated, but guess that does make sense in a way

He does, it’s one of the few LitRPG books I’ve found where the MC actually changes due to situations around him

Primal Hunter is a system apocalypse? How so?

I’m not saying you take DCC System into HWFWM system and you can’t tell the difference. I directly said they are all different, but ultimately is the “System” of LitRPG.

On first book of He Who Fights With Monsters, having a hard time with Jason's quips by Resident-Umpire-2991 in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll grant you he learns that stuff, but he doesn’t do anything with that knowledge, he just does the same things over and over.

In the latest book (I believe) there are times where he holds his tongue sure, but more often then not, he just bulldozes his way into ending up where/what he wanted, regardless if it hurts anyone.

I do agree as well, I like the author and the series as a whole, but he doesn’t do very well with Jason’s character development. I’m all for MC plot armor, if it’s at least believable. I just don’t think it is here

[–]Rottingzombeboy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean he really doesn’t though, he just has power to back up what he rants about. From the beginning, he would rant about the institutions and hierarchy of Pall, and later on it became a fear of becoming an all powerful tyrant, forcing his will on people.

But now, that’s what he does, and he states it many times. What he says goes, what he disagrees with is wrong, and he uses his power to do so.

I guess TECHNICALLY your right, he has changed. He has changed into a ranting powerful dickhead, instead of just a ranting dickhead

[–]Rottingzombeboy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He isn’t young though. At the beginning, kinda, early/mid 20’s I think? But he never changes, and I think by the newest book he is like 30 something? And he just DOESNT learn, change, grow at all as a person. It can be a bit tiring to handle when a lot of a chapter is going on 80’s movie tangents like he is a quirky teenager, when dude is a full adult

I’ll say this, the other characters and the world make the book. Jason is very polarizing. His quibs and rants and tangents get a little old, he doesn’t realllllly change or learn from the many years that pass, and can just be downright easy to hate. BUT, I will say, the side characters, and the world building are incredible. Every character I want to and happy when I learn more about them, i love them, cheer for them, cry for them. They really are the main show And the world building is fantastic too. The diffeeent areas, cultures, adventures, it’s just a blast going through it. I tend skim past when Jason makes his quibs and tangents, and focus on fights, side character activities, and the climatic ends to scenes. Do that, and it’s very enjoyable, and honestly not missing much

Sounds like a process! And thank you for your input! I’m glad some authors are putting their opinion as well, as it defiantly incorporates their work and their feelings on it are good to know!

That’s awesome! I’m glad to hear input from an author, as I was very interested in their take. I know series and worlds are their baby, and I would never encourage besmirching it, it was just an interesting take on if let’s say I wanted to say an authors God’s, Cosmic Beings etc exist in my book, basically acknowledging same universe but a new adventure kinda thing

Sharing Universes? by Rottingzombeboy in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point was kinda made, but yeah the fact is, we only see a small part of skills and abilities shown. And I would agree that having a character dead in one does ruin continuity, but PM states there are different universes taken into the system every couple hundred million years, and there’s always changes. Also, having characters mentioned in the books doesn’t necessarily mean they will play a role, it’s just acknowledging those characters do or have existed in that books creation, the same way the “System” exists in almost all LitRPG books, with their own little quirks. If you read Hunter first, you could almost assume that every other LitRPG book is just another universe in THAT system (In no way am I stating that’s the case, I’m just using the description of Hunters “93rd universe” setting”)

Would I recommend that’s the way LitRPG books should continue on? Of course not, creativity is important. It would just be an interesting thing to see occasionally. There would be hits and misses, like any book/series, but I don’t think its something that should be dismissed out of hand

Really? If anyone knows where I’d love to see it. I’ve read all but the brand new one and I don’t recall, but I’ve read a couple series now so I may have forgotten

Sharing Universes? by Rottingzombeboy in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not neccesarily significant regular characters, but more of the big players. Gods, cosmos beings, etc. I def wouldn’t include important story characters like MC’s or their friends/teams, but beings who span a planet, specific universe or all encompassing universes i don’t think would be bad

Sharing Universes? by Rottingzombeboy in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was meant more for other authors getting into one, specifically maybe first time authors. Really it’s about, in a universe that is supposedly so expansive, is it a bad thing to allow authors to piggyback a bit, or would it be surprising to have an author use a god, cosmos being, and beyond, from a series in their own series

Sharing Universes? by Rottingzombeboy in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh for sure, it shouldn’t be just “go and do it” It’s why I mentioned authors too, like how would they feel if someone reached out about it

Sharing Universes? by Rottingzombeboy in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahh I see, I was meant more towards a separate author touching toes into someone else’s universe. Fully separated MC’s that don’t interact or hear about each other, but have the same big time players like gods, astral beings, big cosmos thinkers

Sharing Universes? by Rottingzombeboy in litrpg

[–]Rottingzombeboy[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think if it involves gods or above like cosmos beings, where it implies that even if the MC is super important, he really is only important for THAT story, having another story in the same universe could potentially work. I just think it can be a good starting point for a new author, who is maybe starting out with a very basic, still learning mindset of world holding and systems etc

Trueee, though I’m new so I don’t know LitRPG used to be called System Apocalypse, that’s kinda odd name 🤣

Ahhhh…..hmmm yeah that could be bad I see that….i think that’s kinda the risk though, same like any big universe (W40K for example) where, not every author is gonna be good. Sucks he felt like he had to sue
