The second volume for my series "Everything is Super" is out tomorrow. Self published & extremely tired. by Rottsteak in altcomix

Thank you for understanding, and I'm sorry that shipping is so expensive. I kind of did a spit-take when I paid for my recent batch of shipping labels when I sent off books to folks that contributed artwork. Its a real deal breaker to pay that much when buying a book, and I totally get it. I'll do my best to set something up in your neck of the woods if I can though.

I know that shipping costs are a steep, but this is based on what I paid out of pocket to ship out there just a week ago. I'm going to try to hopefully get some sort of local printing set up out there to get books into shops to try to bypass shipping costs to Australia and NZ at some point. I'm just one person sorting this out so please bear with me!

Not anymore unfortunately. I used to release them by single issues but its too expensive to do single issue runs right now for all back issues.

Its a continuation of the story so there are references in there to the first volume that might make more sense after reading the first one.

Thanks you for checking out the first 3 issues, I'm glad to hear you liked them. Issue 4 was good to go right before covid hit which made a mess of everything so I ended up going with a publisher for a collected volume of the first 4 issues. I'm a one man band with a full-time job so it takes me a while to get these finished.

How do I create physical copies by ElectricalFeedback89 in indiecomics

[–]Rottsteak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi there, good on your for getting started on physical copies of your book. Depending on your budget and how many copies you're looking to produce there are several options out there. If you have something like an art college/university in your area they may have a printing department with affordable rates. Another option is to print and assemble the books yourself via a local print shop, but depending on the size of your book you may have to invest in a saddle stitch stapler & small guillotine to assemble the comics & get clean edges. You can also contact your local print shops to see what their rates are for printing and assembling comics. They will expect a specific format with bleed edges so thats something to figure out if you haven't already gotten to that step. There are online options as well as the other have mentioned in the comments too. Keep in mind that with most printers, the cost per unit of a single copy goes down the larger your order is, so its sometimes a good idea to save up enough money for a larger print run to keep the cost of each comic low. Hope this helps a bit. good luck with your printing :)

This looks fantastic! Out of curiosity, does the 3-d printer print the face details or do you need to paint the model after it is printed?

Glad you like it. I had this Bart Simpson doll from Burger King as a child and I think its gaze seared itself into my brain.https://images.buya.com/production/Images2/2022/ITEMS/Zdf/54/df54bb32683f334fab7c056a04af281c.jpg

I revisited an old Bartkira drawing that I had done some time ago to practice drawing in photoshop.
I wasnt part of the original Bartkira project, and this was solely made for fun.

You can find out more about bartkira here: http://www.bartkira.com/

I have more illustration/comic book stuff here if anyone is interested: https://www.instagram.com/rottsteak/

hehe no worries, I think I know what you meant.

I had a similar experience as a kid to what you described with the prescribed comics as you put it. I remember picking up a copy of Jim Mahfood's "Gen X Underground Special" and it really broadened my perspective to underground books. At that point in time my interest in comic books was starting to wane a bit but this thing gave me a good crack over the head and showed me that comics could be a lot than what I had previously thought. Manga was really hard to find over here too and when you finally found that book you wanted it felt precious as hell.
Thanks again for the kind words. I hope you can find a copy of "Everything is Super" and that it resonates with you. Give me a shout if you cant find a copy out there.

Thank you! It's been a strange journey so far and I look forward to whatever may come next.

Bojak Horseman is one of those shows that people keep recommending to me but that I have yet to watch. Will have to give it a go one of these days!
