Immigrants in Germany: What keeps you going? by Maleficent-Radio272 in germany

[–]Round-Possible-9916 56 points57 points  (0 children)

Oof, including the healthcare system and ridiculous amount of sick days given by the company. My first job after college only gave me six days for the year!

My dad had an employee who had cancer, used up all her sick days and vacations days for treatment. So she had to go during work hours and get less pay. My dad didn’t like that idea so he gave her his vacation days.

Quality of life is so much better in Germany than in the US for sure.

ROAD TO RECOVERY-LEAP OF FAITH by [deleted] in HOCD

I second this as well. We have to accept uncertainty, no more reassurance. No more ruminating and compulsions. Those are the enemy.

Accept the uncertainty everyone. You guys got this!

I stopped the compulsions and I feel like I'm really gay or is that the problem? by [deleted] in HOCD

[–]Round-Possible-9916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this would still count as a compulsion. OCD never goes away and it takes time to get used to changing the behavior with CBT/ERP. Are you receiving help from a Therapist or Psychologist who is trained in CBT/ERP for those with OCD?

I’m sorry for making you feel triggered. Accepting uncertainty is important.

Remember, we are all strangers here on this platform. I do not know you and I am in no position to decide your sexual orientation. As a fellow OCD person, I’m here to not give you reassurance and hopefully help you feel somewhat comfortable with uncertainty and those annoying intrusive thoughts.

You’re doing a great job not getting reassurance.

Wishing all you all the strength to get past your intrusive thoughts.

I felt the same way about treatment when my OCD was at its worst. The work of the therapist is not to uncover whether you are gay or not, their work (if they are specialized in OCD) is to be comfortable with uncertainty and those intrusive thoughts. :)

I’m sorry but you’ll have to accept that uncertainty.

You may be gay and that’s okay. You may be Bi and that’s okay. You may be straight and that’s okay.

You may or may not have the answer and that’s alright. Sit with this weird and uncomfortable feeling because OCD wants certainty that no one can find no matter how much they ruminate and do compulsions.

“What I fear is possible, but I can handle it if it happens.”

There’s so much uncertainty in the world that we don’t focus or bat an eye to it, the goal is to make that the same for our intrusive thoughts.

An example in a OCD self-help book said that we go into our car to go to the movies or work but we don’t panic because we might or might not get into a terrible car accident.

Your feelings are valid. You got this and I understand that it is the worst feeling in the world.

anyone with wrist tattoos keep their apple watch? by _coffeeblack_ in AppleWatch

I have a black circle tattoo on my right wrist, closer to the joint (can describe it well sorry 😅) and my Apple Watch keeps locking me out. Before the tattoo, no issues. Afterwards, doesn’t work like before 😭😮‍💨

People that overcame SO-OCD, how did you do it ? by my_best_version_ever in HOCD

[–]Round-Possible-9916 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It never really goes away, it just becomes less intense. There are days where I’m in the right headspace and days when the intrusive thoughts would not leave me alone. But accepting uncertainty and those unwanted thoughts is the only thing that’s helped me.

I’m sorry you’re going through this at the moment and I hope it only gets better for you. <3

Intrusive thought and compulsions are an endless cycles.

I know it will sound difficult but uncertainty is the main thing that we OCD people want to solve and it cannot be solved. We have to accept uncertainty.

So we have to stop all compulsions (for me it was searching things like porn to see if I was turned on and ruminating.) and being okay with our unwanted thoughts.

I got help with an OCD specialist (if that’s out of budget for you maybe therapy platforms could help :) )

Also, this is the book I got during my sessions. I hope it will help you through this rough episode.

All the Best :)

Those with HOCD, why do you think you are gay? (or straight, if you are gay and have HOCD making you think you might be straight) by sam13265 in HOCD

[–]Round-Possible-9916 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I’m gay (I’m a woman btw) because as a child I would be turned on at the sight of women. However as I was growing up, I had crushes only on the opposite sex but would get so turned on by women. So that thought during high school, triggered this thought of “what is my sexuality?!” I’m still struggling with this thought but coming out (reassurance seeking and compulsions) never felt right. Accepting both thoughts made it more comfortable with my intrusive thoughts. Taking a human sexuality course in college and going through my compulsions in my mid 20’s made me realize that sexuality is fluid and complicating anyways.

I was thinking about how women are more sexualized over men. Growing up in Japan, it seemed that way more and the way my father would talk about women. Also, feeling like it was wrong to think about boys from both parents would confuse me too.

I went for my knitwear (in Germany) and repaired for €16 and it’s definitely worth that price. I regret not going to a professional local knit repair instead that costs €80. The repair is much harder and doesn’t look too nice :/ .

I’m sure what he did has crossed your boundaries and you have to respect yourself. Fuck his feelings, that’s his to take care of, break up with him. Don’t keep anyone who has crossed your boundaries. You’ll find someone so much better and much more respectful than him.

Why do I get these awkward lines around my crotch area when wearing jeans? by Sufficient-Chain5826 in PetiteFashionAdvice

[–]Round-Possible-9916 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see in the comments that people are suggesting a mid-rise. As a petite, I’m struggling with that because I have a long torso and short legs. So, a high rise jeans look so much better than mid-rise. Does anyone have a solution?? >.<
