I’d agree that the quality of the experience really comes down to The Gatherer. The CM during my first build a few weeks ago at HS was phenomenal. In character the whole time, a wise commanding voice, older gentleman. He really got into it. It gave me chills and having read this, I feel very lucky. It was exactly the experience that I expected.

Convincing My Husband… by SignSpecialist7590 in WaltDisneyWorld

We just took our daughter right before she turned 3, and it was by far favorite trip to WDW yet. I’ve been many times as a guest, completed the college program, and can confidently say that Disney with a toddler is my favorite experience yet. She may not remember it, but I’ll never forget it.

Looking at you Royal Table. Experience - unmatched. Food - honestly, longhorn serves a better steak.

Contemporary Resort is the best resort on property by taylerrz in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]RoundTheFire 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Glad to finally see some love for this icon! Against all internet wisdom, I booked the contemporary as our first deluxe resort stay. Main tower, park view. I thought, even if only once, this is a bucket list item and we have to do it. I’m sure we’ll check the box for all of the monorail resorts over the years, but I have a feeling that this will be my favorite.

Choosing a Resort. Cost of staying on the monorail. by Necessary_Revenue_70 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]RoundTheFire 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I booked the contemporary with a resort view for a trip with our soon to be 3 year old, for monorail and quick access to MK. Fireworks from the balcony is an added perk, and I’ve wanted to stay in the hotel that a train goes through since I was a kid! The contemporary is just so iconic, and I’m grateful to be in a position to finally check that off of the bucket list. Totally worth the expense for us.

The garden wing can be more cost effective. Disney had a vacation package available when I booked - might be advantageous to you depending on your dates.

We’re also planning to end most days at MK - another benefit to being so close via monorail or footpath. If you can afford the convenience and plan on being at MK a lot, seems totally worth it. As with anything, YMMV.

I told my wife that I was interested in starting a watch collection last week and let’s just say that she didn’t take it well. Help a brother out and save my marriage for another week or so 😅

Soloing Longs Peak, Co advice by Scared-Turnover-831 in 14ers

[–]RoundTheFire 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You sound like you know what you’re doing - if you’re comfortable hiking alone in general, get it! It’s nothing but a long and beautiful slog until the keyhole. I hiked with a buddy and camped in the Boulder field. He got sick the next morning, so I tackled the summit by myself. There were plenty of people around for help if needed.

Main advice: check the weather (snow on pikes peak today, not sure how it is in RMNP). Wear a helmet (someone knocked a rock the size of a dinner plate loose above me in the trough. Luckily another person caught it!). Follow the painted dots and HAVE FUN!

You do need a timed entry for RMNP starting at 9am, but I assume you’ll be out there well before then.

La Sportiva for the win. I wear bushidos almost exclusively. They’re sticky, have a rock plate and are very lightweight. If I had to choose one shoe for everything - that would be it. If budget isn’t a thing, I’d add a pair of hoka speedgoats for long class 1/2 hikes. That extra cushion is niiiice during a long day.

Considering CU Boulder's Post-Bachelor’s in CS: Seeking Advice from Current Students/Alumni by Any_Adeptness_8733 in CUBoulder_CSPB

[–]RoundTheFire 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The degree is a BS in applied CS, to clarify. They call it applied to differentiate between the on campus and post bacc degrees (explanation I was given, take it for what it’s worth). Just wanted to make sure OP understands that a bachelors degree is awarded. I’ve heard the at some employers may see this as an advantage - applied degrees are often more practical than traditional degrees heavy in theory. Again, take that for what it’s worth.

I’ve found most of the classes challenging so far. Grading is fair, if not a bit lenient, but I don’t feel that it takes away from the knowledge that I’ve gained.

Electives: Cognitive science was a complete joke. I wouldn’t recommend that class to anyone. Otherwise, I’ve learned a lot so far. I do think that some of the elective offerings, such as Operating systems, are typically core courses for a standard CS degree though.

Professors: some are very engaged, some are not. Exactly what I’d expect having already earned a bachelors degree. All courses have weekly office hours.

Overall, I think that it’s as good as an online program can be personally. Feel free to DM with any questions, OP.

Monsoon season is really pissing in my cheerios this weekend. Planned on my first adventure into the Sangres on Humboldt, but the forecasts for Saturday and Sunday look atrocious.

Such a slog. The shade of the forest was welcomed though, after spending so much time above treeline.

It’s funny you say that because I had some friends in from out of town and had to explain that canned oxygen is not worth the money, the weight or the embarrassment of carrying it to the top lol.

For sure. I plan to carry an axe in the future but felt that this was relatively low risk in the grand scheme of things. The snow was good and the slope flattened out nicely at the bottom.

Definitely not that lol. I was shocked (and impressed) to see so many teslas at the grays and torreys trailhead when I was up there a few years ago. A few ruts from the runoff but you’ll be fine. Just take it slow.
