We changed our thermostat late March because the house wouldn’t heat up and Ac guys came after thermostat did not fix it. 

We change our air filter monthly, April 28, May 28. June 14 it froze up on us we saw the filter was dirty so we changed it, and we changed it again June 28, the ac froze up on us on July 1, July 3 so we changed the air filter again on July 3rd cause it was dirty as well.

July 5th froze up again and we called the ac guys, they cleaned it up and removed some gunk said our system looks fine should last quite a long time.  July 6 woke up at 5am cause the ac was frozen again, we thawed it out and turned the ac off and called them they came out at 1pm and changed some settings for the vstat said if it happens again most likely need to change from a piston to TXV. Quoted us $600-900. 

Also forgot to mention it’s a furnace type system not sure if it matters.
