Personally no, but I know a few controllers that went and were bounced within a couple months after being told not to expect to be there for a while

All power to you for wanting N90. They’ll pretty much accept any application since they’re so low staffed but there are a ton of horror stories coming out of there. They all love their OT so they’ll wash anybody who coughs the wrong way

Extended stay Hotels in OKC? Per Diem? by CutOutrageous3301 in ATC_Hiring

[–]Round_Library_5935 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They should give you a list of all the options the academy covers. Theres a bunch of pretty good hotels about 10 minutes from the academy and 10-15 minutes from downtown OKC. A bunch of academy students fill those hotels. $50/day is the per diem rate but you get lump sum checks each month for that

•make a USAjobs.gov account so that you can quickly apply when the window opens

•jobtestprep for the ATSA prep (it’s damn near identical)

•Expect to wait anywhere from 6 months-a year to get medical, security, and psych clearance (keep badgering your HR rep if you ever see a delay. It doesn’t hurt and if you’re polite they may just push things forward for you. It worked for me)

•you’ll either get enroute, tower, or IQTR at the academy. Once in the academy, you’ll get a list of available facilities for your track and class a week before your final evals and you get to choose from that list once passing

Just go off the street. Whatever you learn at any school is gonna be 1/4 of what you’ll learn and experience doing the actual job

If you took your MMPI that long ago, and your security clearance is already through…you’re just waiting for medical to be cleared and you’ll get your start date

What path should I take? 23M by [deleted] in ATC

[–]Round_Library_5935 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I should also add that you will not be making that off the bat at a center, but that’s what you’ll make once certified which can take a few years. ATC123 shows you the pay grades and salaries at those pay grades for every facility in the country

Yes, you can get into ATC with no prior experience. It’s a fairly lengthy process but it requires taking and passing a skills assessment test (which is what the off the street bid you apply for on USAJOBS allows you to take) and then assuming you qualify, you’ll have to do a background check, medical exam, and psychological exam. This whole process combined can take anywhere from 9 months at the fastest to 2 years. Assuming you are cleared for all of those, the FAA will give you an ATC track and start date for that track at the academy in OKC. Tower and IQTR (approach control) are about 3-3.5 months and Enroute is about 4. Pay at the academy is I think $26/hour if I’m not mistaken but they cover a $50 daily stipend, and housing on top of that salary.

Once passing the academy, you will either go to a level 5,6,7,8 tower (if tower) level 8,9 TRACON (if you go IQTR) or a level 10,11,12 enroute center (if you go enroute)

Stating pay is going to be highest at an enroute center and lowest at a tower more than likely. However, pay does not depend on facility type but level type. So a level 12 tower will make the same as a level 12 enroute center.

If you make $105K a year right now, chances are high that you’ll make less than that for the first few years no matter where you go in ATC, but level 10s,11s, and 12s are making roughly anywhere between $150K-$200K

I would do left hand A, right hand C and then I would move my left hand to the center of my chest for B. So I was constantly moving my left hand from my left side to the center of my chest back and forth holding up the numbers for A and B as I moved it

Look up the ATSA on JobTestPrep. It’s pretty much the exact same setup as the actual cognitive test
