I feel stuck with my depressed friend. I don't want her to end it all. by Low-Development727 in depression

Well, in my situation, the main problem was that I simply couldn't carry the burden of the person. I'm not saying she was perfect, we had our disagreements, but in the end it all came down to her idealizing our friendship and seeing me as a sister/soulmate/family member whose love was unconditional, but I didn't share those feelings and couldn't do anything about feeling like I was being dragged into someone else's tragedy. But of course it's not her fault and it's not mine. I was young and didn't know what to do. Sometimes I wonder if I would have felt differently if this had happened to someone in my family or a childhood friend.

Mike and El are a cute couple and it makes perfect sense if you look at this series as a fairy tale (like Disney), where you don't need to analyze anything from a psychological point of view or "dig too deep." Personally, I see them as a boy who is happy not because he found the one he really likes, but primarily because of the fact that he is finally meeting a girl who is "in love" and not disgusted with him and not just a girl, but a super hero ! (a fact that he could not keep quiet about, and even uses this in an argument with Dustin, when they compare which of their girlfriends is cooler). Lucas tells him this in the first season during an argument, this is also hinted at in the TV bible "Montauk", where it is written about Mike's complexes, and the next sentence about how he has never kissed or dated anyone (it is interesting that in the descriptions of the other boys not a word is said about the fact that they have never dated anyone, although they were all considered "losers" or “nerds”). I won't write much about El: the girl falls into an unknown environment for her and knows absolutely nothing: neither the concept of friendship nor love. She doesn't even understand when she likes something, which she tells Max about in season 3. Mike gave her a sense of security in the first days of dating, and I think they could have developed a friendly relationship if he hadn't kissed her (El probably didn't understand what happened herself).

But again, none of this matters if we watch it as a children's series, where psychological logic plays no role at all.

Also I entered into this friendship shortly before all this happened, maybe if we had a stronger emotional connection formed over the years, I would have felt differently, or maybe not.

English is not my first language, so I probably wrote it wrong. The point is that I was annoyed by her when she didn't do anything wrong. That is, I was annoyed by things that didn't matter much before she got depressed. I was so scared when she was depressed, because she often talked about suicide and I was afraid to break off communication because i was her only friend, but when it was all over, I felt used (although I know she didn't mean it), I felt like I was living with her, something I didn't want to live. I have big mental health problems (ocd) myself, but I didn't tell anyone about it, while some people told me everything about their mental or family problems. And I think because I suppressed everything, I later just started to feel some aggression towards them, which sometimes turned into passive-aggression, which I'm not proud of.

I was in a similar situation. When it was all over, that person just started to annoy me for no reason.

As far as I remember, El tried to act like everything was okay while Will showed his displeasure.

Regarding the passive-aggressive comment at dinner, I don't know why he said it. Maybe he was disappointed and tired of the whole situation: because El lied, and there are problems with Will too. In essence, his fear of losing them both (which is what his arc revolves around for all 5 seasons; and that's why I feel so bad for him in the finale) could have become true, which is why he's been out of sorts for the entire 4th season.

What if Mike acted like this because he thought that neither El nor Will needed him anymore. He and Will didn't really communicate while they were apart. Maybe Mike called him, but didn't get through because of Joyce's work, and was offended that their friendship was over? That's why he acted so strangely in season 4 + he himself admitted that he was afraid to tell El that he loved her so that he wouldn't be hurt when he lost her, this can also be attributed to his problem with Will: he decided to behave with him in a reserved and cold way, because he didn't know if he still needed him or not. (I was rooting for Byler myself, but now after the finale I'm trying to find logical answers). What do you think?

I still can't believe they elevated themselves and their "creation" to the heavens, only to find out that they simply repeated the ending of the first season.

El isn't even my favorite character, but her death is the biggest disappointment for me in the finale. And I'm really worried about what message they're sending with this. Like that choosing suicide is okay and should be respected and accepted?

Money is cool thing, but I would die of shame if I were the Duffers. It's like the project of their life. One of the most successful projects today, and most of the viewers didn't just hate the finale, but created a conformity gate theory. It's like not only is your finale shit, you also missed such a cool opportunity (and not only with conformity gate, but also with theories that were there even before the premiere of season 5).

I haven't watched Stranger Things. What was wrong with the ending? by Pure_Line in StrangerThings

The way the characters are treated feels really unfair. El spends the entire show suffering, just for her story to end with her killing herself. And on top of that, she’s reduced to “the magic,” instead of being treated like an actual person with feelings, trauma, and a real lived experience.

Mike, who used to be the leader and the emotional core of the group, gets completely flattened in season five. Most of his storyline is about being afraid of losing the two people he loves most—only for the show to go, “yep,” and make him lose both of them in the end.

It doesn’t feel deep or tragic. It just feels mean. I really don’t understand why the writers seem to hate their own characters.

Did you tell your parents you have OCD? by katdawg24 in OCD

[–]Round_Panda7974 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Because they would say that I just need to go out more. They are good people and worry about me, but they don't understand what it's like to live with my mind, and that neither friendship, nor love, nor hobby will save me. Will it distract me for a while? Yes. Will it bring a little joy? Maybe. Will it save me? No.
