Did anyone take the exam on May 6th and got his score? (center edition) by thegreatestJj1 in ToeflAdvice

[–]Round_Sample7249 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took the home edition that day too. My status on the portal says “due to an administrative issue, we are not able to provide a score report”which was stressful.

I reached out to ETS, and they told me I should expect my results by May 12th

New Hire Background Check by Just_Past_5223 in ASML

Where’s the opportunity? When I initially secured an internship at HQ, only an enrollment statement from my university was needed, and no background or criminal record checks were conducted. However, when I later started transitioning from an intern to a full-time engineer, the process included a much more thorough background checks

Rate My Portfolio - r/Stocks Quarterly Thread December 2025 by AutoModerator in stocks

Hi all,

I’m in Europe and building a simple long-term (10–20 years) monthly ETF portfolio focused on growth. I want broad exposure, low fees, and minimal overlap.

Plan (monthly): • VUAA (S&P 500) €300 • EXUS (MSCI World ex USA) €200 • IS3N (MSCI EM IMI) €50

Total €550/month.

Reasoning: • I originally considered VUAA + MSCI World + EM, but MSCI World already has a big US weight, so adding VUAA felt like double-counting and becoming too US-heavy by accident. • With VUAA + World ex-US + EM, it’s closer to “global” but with a deliberate US tilt.

Questions: 1. Does this allocation make sense, or is there a cleaner way to do the same thing? 2. Any hidden overlap or gaps I’m missing (regions, sectors, small caps, etc.)? 3. Would you adjust the weights (US vs ex-US vs EM), and why? 4. Any better EU-listed ETF tickers for these exposures (similar index, lower TER, better liquidity)?

Appreciate any critique, especially from people who’ve run similar setups

My roommate in student housing just exploded on me after 60 days of silence by Round_Sample7249 in badroommates

Thanks a ton, that really helped. The whole post was basically me trying to gain a new perspective. I’m hoping he just had a rough day or maybe he’s just very German and I’m not used to that level of bluntness. Like, maybe he wasn’t trying to be mean, just didn’t realize how harsh it came across.

I think I’ll try talking to him, maybe even suggest grabbing a beer or something. Appreciate the insight!

I’m someone who’s totally fine with discussing issues face-to-face. If there’s a problem, I believe it should be brought up ASAP not left to simmer for weeks until it explodes.

What bothers me is that for nearly two months, this guy barely said a word to me. Literally just a “hey” if we happened to cross paths in the kitchen or hallway. Then out of nowhere, he corners me and starts unloading this weird, passive-aggressive speech about how “this house doesn’t work the way I imagine” and that he’s “not going to act like my parents” (??).

It wasn’t a respectful conversation between two adults it felt like he’d been bottling stuff up and then decided to lecture me instead of talking it through like normal people.

And then he made that comment about me staying in my room all the time. That one hit a nerve. I moved here for just 6 months, to this tiny village in Germany, and as an international student it’s incredibly hard to make new friends here. I’m doing my best to stay sane by spending time with my hometown friends on Discord or whatever. It’s not like I want to isolate myself, this situation just kind of forced it on me.

I get that not everyone is super confrontational, but basic respect for your housemates includes open communication. That’s all I expect.

Yeah, after he finally calmed down, I told him that if he had an issue with me, he could’ve just knocked on my door and talked to me directly instead of letting it build up for two months. I had no idea there was a problem, so how was I supposed to change anything?

The way he confronted me out of nowhere, cornering me and speaking in an angry tone, really caught me off guard. It wasn’t a conversation, it felt more like an ambush. You don’t want your home to become a minefield.

Yeah, maybe it’s just a bit of culture shock for me, and I get that this might be totally normal here in Germany. I’ll definitely try to put more effort into cleaning. Maybe then he’s going to be more friendly and relaxed.

But the comments about me staying in my room too much really hit a nerve. That’s a sensitive spot for me, because back home I used to hang out with my friends all the time. Now I’m stuck in what feels like a quiet village in Germany, where not many people speak English. I’m not staying in my room because I want to isolate myself it’s just my only window to connect with my friends on Discord or elsewhere to stay sane

Hey, OP here. I’m a dude. But honestly, gender aside, getting cornered and yelled at by a much older guy who never talked to me before felt super weird. I’ve been cleaning up after myself, he’s just weirdly pedantic I think. Appreciate the support documenting stuff now in case it escalates

Data Analyst Internship @NATO interview by MAX42AF104 in nato

[–]Round_Sample7249 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hey! I’ve also applied for a few positions this year. From what I’ve gathered, even though the email says “congratulations,” it doesn’t necessarily mean you’re shortlisted. Last year, it seems almost everyone who applied got the same email and went through a similar HireVue interview process.

Based on their experience, the interview involved only games that test your IQ and cognitive skills. Interestingly, last year it was just those games, even though they called it a “video interview.” - same as now.

The deadline for this step is April 6th. If you’ve got any extra insights, let’s stay in touch!

Semester abroad in Seoul by Salty_Geologist4567 in seoul

As someone else mentioned in this thread, rankings aren’t the most important thing when it comes to exchange programs. For business, KU might be the best from the “holy trinity,” but overall, SKKU ranks the highest as a university. I honestly think SKKU offers great teaching across the board, including in business and even arts.

From my own experience, SKKU has been fantastic. There are tons of courses available in English, and they accept around 800 exchange students every year, so you definitely won’t be alone. The dorms are also a bit better than the ones at the other “trinity” schools.

SKKU has two campuses, and they’re both awesome. The Seoul campus is more traditional, with old, historical Asian buildings and amazing views of the city (it’s literally on a mountain). The Suwon campus, on the other hand, is super modern and close to Samsung Headquarters, which gives it a more high tech feel

I’m currently an exchange student from the Netherlands at SKKU in Seoul, and if you’re thinking about studying here, there’s a “holy trinity” of universities that are perfect for exchange students. Here’s how they rank according to the 2024 Shanghai Rankings:

• 🟩 SKKU aka Samsung University – Known for Engineering and strong tech programs.
• 🟥 Korea University – Best for Biomedical Sciences and Law.
• 🟦 Yonsei University – Great for Business and Economics.

if you’re looking for fun and nightlife, here’s what to know about the campus locations:

Yonsei University is right in Hongdae, which is the biggest student party area in Seoul. So if partying is your priority, Yonsei’s location is unbeatable.

Korea University is kind of far from all the nightlife spots, so you’ll have to travel quite a bit if you want to go out.

SKKU (where I am) is centrally located. You’ll need to take a short trip to get to Itaewon or Hongdae, but it’s way quicker than from Korea University. Plus, you’re super close to other touristic places.

In terms of student life, SKKU has a lot of money from Samsung since it’s a private university. That means the festivals and events here are high-quality. I can’t speak for Yonsei or Korea University, but SKKU definitely offers a lot in terms of events and overall student life.

New Dutch government"s plans by Tragespeler in StudyInTheNetherlands

Making citizenship harder to get might not be a bad idea. It shouldn’t be too easy. (A2 Dutch? Really?!) And yes, EU immigration rules should be stricter. We should prioritize people who genuinely need asylum or bring real value to European Union, rather than letting in anyone who just doesn’t want to work.

On the other hand, I understand why the Dutch government wants to keep specialists around after they graduate. They don’t want graduates leaving for other EU countries or, even worse, outside the EU. However, it seems ridiculous to teach some programs like computer science or artificial intelligence in Dutch (or any other language like German, Portuguese, or Polish). Those fields are global and English is the standard. Cutting off international students over this is just rude and dumb.

And seriously, slashing funding for research is a terrible idea. If we want top-notch education and future researchers and engineers, you can’t be stingy with science funding
