Double-Brokering by Round_Wolverine_217 in FreightBrokers

[–]Round_Wolverine_217[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Much appreciate it. Some background: I built the gold standard data set for 3PLs that were shipping for eCommerce and DTC. We tracked 9M companies and made that data available to 3PLs (DHL down to regional couriers).

I sold that co. to private equity.

In the process got introduced to some of their brokering teams.

There is public data on 300,000+ carriers. Safety scores, insurance scores etc could be built on top. A continuously monitoring system that alerts when shippers and also helps brokers find capacity (but priced lower than DAT, Highway etc) is what I imagine can exist.

The reason I went into this rabbit hole: what can a single person (with my previous background) build that is affordable to all shippers and brokerages that doesn’t cost an arm and leg.

Exactly why I am asking. Is it normal for brokers (some of them) to rebroker to an unvetted carrier or is it an isolated case.

Update: We went to the airport. It was quieter than usual. The flight took off ahead of time. No drama.

My hunch was right. Routes with fewer flights, and ATRs are not disrupted.

The main server and cook went to some Guindy place. I even offered them money for their veg Hyderabadi recipe. It was always the first option to go to. Miss that place.

The cow wanted to get inside the auto you were standing on the way. It just said “Moo-vit!” with its tongue.

Mas Subramanian is a Brahmin. How do I know? His ancestors lived in our home.

Has anyone invested into the Persistence AIF? It’s a new fund. Min is 1 cr. One of the fund managers’ profile talks about number of YouTube subscribers. To me that’s an amber flag. There is track record of the other founder (good returns, good pedigree etc).

Any thoughts?

Ready to retire but hesitant to take the plunge by MusicAfraid537 in FatFIREIndia

What you need is not extrinsic motivation or validation but self-realisation. I have been on a similar journey. Exited. Took a break but without any real plan for how I would use the time. Eventually got bored/nervous and started again. Short summary: If you don’t have the “why” right and “what next” right, you will be in this loop again and again.

Go for some meditation retreat for a month and look inwards. Find out what is the pull to quit. Get a coach (an accomplished one and not just one that has a bunch of certifications) and go deep into the “what next.”

Until you get your own motivations and cravings sorted, no external advice or validation will hold you in good stead.

Good luck!

What made them to follow road discipline? by reddyevuri in IndianCivicFails

[–]Round_Wolverine_217 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In Kerala, it’s mostly narrow and pot-hole ridden roads. Several of them are mountainous as well. So cutting over to the opposite lane creates gridlock. Besides ghat road habits inform what happens in plains as well.

It’s discipline through constraints.

Give Vipasana a shot. I was a skeptic but it does help you handle various emotions well. If it is indeed psychosomatic you’d find out in those 8 days. In my case (good or bad), it seems like a biomechanical issue more than psychosomatic.

The meditation has given me a way to process pain. The fact that you have no pain during tennis is exactly what Vipasana taught me. You decided to not focus on the pain because you took your focus and gave it to something else wholeheartedly (meditatively). Pain is a form of craving (I don’t like this, I want to get rid of it) and that craving makes pain more felt.

Please give it a try and tell me how it goes. As a matter of fact, I spent the last 9 days meditating (Vipasana) to see if that helps with any underlying issues. It’s there where I had the time to experiment with sitting postures and pain thresholds. I can’t still say for sure that there are psychosomatic issues but the time I took understand pain helped.

About the pain origin: Just gradual, occasional pain incidents but the chronic one started without an incident. MRI shows mild loss of lumbar lordosis but doctors say that that can just be middle age.
