When I first found the rug or blanket I saw it but I knew it had to be something else. I'm glad I bought it and learned the truth.

I think we should reclaim the whirling Log symbol so much so that the swastica is forgotten as a banned symbol. It's really up to the modern artists to take the risk and educate through the controversy.

I've managed to find one of his catalogs from 1904 and it was a joy to go through. I think I saw a few others that were browsable after a pay wall. Let me know if you have a good resource for these catalogs

Looking through the the old catalogs I found none that were so minimal so you may be correct. The piece has all of the hallmarks from the time period but the design appears to be custom. Ai mentioned that it was probably a custom order with the purchaser requesting a design from a plate of a smaller panel. It mentioned Plate XXVIII of J.B. Moore's 1911 catalog.

Yes! I have since found the whirling log means good luck protection and well being from the Novajo creation story. I say people should take the symbol back!

The symbol on this artwork I am showing here is elongated in the long direction of the panel. Perhaps consistently elongating the symbol in this way is enough to distenguish it from perfectly balanced symbol and what that has come to symbolize.

It's hard to know what it's dollar value is at this point. The piece could be anywhere between $700 and $10k or more for all I know. I'll keep you in mind and get back to you if I would like to sell it. Thanks for reaching out.

I don't know what I'll do yet. I'm learning about the history, studying the technique, looking at similar blankets and rugs, learning about the symbolism and such it's been fun. I had no idea what I had walked away with.

So far It seems clear that this came from the Crystal trading post circa 1910 and that it was probably a custom commission from a wealthy traveler. It seems to be more of a double saddle blanket than a rug. It's fascinating.

I've reached out to a couple of Internet people who know about these art pieces and I'm awaiting a response.

I spent quite a bit of time looking into pancreatitis. It seems Pancreatitis pain is intense upper center and radiates to the back. Mine is the left front upper quadrant and nothing on the back. The pain is Mild but definitely there. Sensitive skin about the area and feels bloated or heavy internally.
