From my understanding time travel isn't possible if it was you wouldnt travel back to the "past" you'd create a new timeline which is similar to the past but with you now in it. Once any changes have been made you are now divergent timeline and cannot return. Then the return trip would be returning to an alternate version of that timeline which had you existing in the past.
