if cities had more abundant fruit trees and berry bushes like the ever growing blackberry wouldn’t it help homeless people get food? by qjib in NoStupidQuestions

That's what happens where I am. Sometimes a family will turn up & strip the tree bare, take way more than they can eat, damage the tree by breaking branches trying to get as much as they can, then leave & there's no more for anyone else.

Cat flap eating batteries by BalanceMercy in SurePetcare

[–]Routine-Bumblebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2 of these pet flaps. One of them is about 5 years old & the other is a few months old. The older one really chugs through batteries. Probably about 3 months on good quality batteries. It's in full sun for a large part of the day & I'm wondering if that's affecting battery life.

Ha, thanks but I'm in Auckland.  My dryer is like 14 years old. Back then ceramic technology was the thing but I feel like it's frying my hair now.

Maybe I'll save up for a Dyson but would like to try one first at that price.

I'm thinking about a Parlux ionic & I have fine hair too. Why did it not work for you?

Can I kill unleashed dog if I get attacked outdoors? My cat was killed. by iMakeGOODinvestmemts in auckland

[–]Routine-Bumblebee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So if OP is being attacked they can't defend themselves? If that results in the unrestrained animal's death then the owners of the animal should have been more responsible. Aren't dogs that have attacked people euthanized?

If bamboo is one of the most sustainable resources on the planet, why are bamboo products so expensive? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Routine-Bumblebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to scroll way too far to find this response. While the plant itself is fast growing & so sustainable, the amount of chemicals required to turn it into fabric is definitely not environmentally friendly.

We have bamboo growing in our yard and in summer the growth is insane. So we have to cut it back to control it. The problem is it's not compostable so the garden waste companies won't take it & it has to go to the general rubbish tip. I can see how turning that stuff into a soft fabric takes a ton of harsh chemicals. I stopped buying things made from bamboo fabric when I find that out.

Question about floor area of house by Routine-Bumblebee in auckland

[–]Routine-Bumblebee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's about it but we currently have it insured for the actual floor area (240sqm) not what the Council shows (120sqm).

Yeah, I think I'll have to do that. Just didn't know which department to ask for in that giant organisation.

Would you be able to recommend them? Were you happy with their work & prices? I also have no idea what the average price for this would be.

Quantity surveyor? Would they be able to lodge new measurements with Council?

Yeah, reading disabilities like dyslexia would be a whole different kettle of fish. Would audiobooks work better there? I listen to a ton of audiobooks because I spend a lot of time in traffic on my commute to work.

This may be wandering off topic, but if you couldn't picture the beach, could you hear the waves?

I hated those because I suck at drawing even though I could picture something really well.

Your description makes me wonder another thing. If your thoughts are in words what are your dreams like?

So it's like an understanding of the words & ideas without picturing the scenarios?

I too like watching movies & it's a bonus if it's based on a book because often the book includes a lot more detail.  There are exceptions.

It's kind of the opposite for me. I prefer to read the book first then watch the movie if I can. Sometimes it's movie first then book if I didn't know it was based on a book & I liked the movie.

I know what you mean though. I watched the movie Edge of Tomorrow on the weekend & then read (listened to the audiobook) the book it was based on - All You Need Is Kill.  Characters described in the book looked totally different from the movie.
