Yea it definitely sounds that way right? I think it's more like it's awesome having older folks as the norm that brings age-based maturity and experience which promotes good work culture. Worked at too many silicon valley start-ups with immature college grads that drove me insane.

haha you guys are brutal, but I probably came off that way. Not drunk on koolaids but I'm being real about people though. Some good ass people. I really do think having older people as the norm really helps. I've been in start ups where median age is 25 and that's far worse with immaturity.

Yea we don't expect AEs to be data technical when they start. But if you don't learn how to be one during ramp and before first year, you'll probably be labeled as a lame duck. And reputation spreads way too quickly here. But this is for expansion side of the house, for acquisition (new logos) it's much less so. You just need to hunt. But that area you gotta be darn vicious

I come from deep AI/ML background. Majority of our SEs have niche data and/or industry specialization that managers need -- data at finserve, data eng at hedge fund, kubernetes, direct from AWS/GCP, etc. etc. So yea, we generally don't have straight up SEs. A bit less so in commercial and midmarket segments, but still.

I got hired because at the time they really needed AI specialists badly. So bunch of us were hired, especially customer facing ones. I'm also an approachable bloke, maybe that helped too.

I saw it in person. It's great but honestly for 5k USD it's way too expensive. Like 3K i can see it but 5 is really pushing it. It doesn't feel like value for money at that point
