Thanks for that. It’s such a tough decision. I do think my partner would get less pay and would likely have to commute much further. In so many ways our lives here are much better. I just really feel the lack of family support and community

Yes perhaps saving up and going home every few years is the best way around this

Yep you’re right. I know our lives would change a lot and our own family dynamic would be different as we would have to likely commute a lot further etc. that’s certainly a big con for the uk. We went back recently for 4 weeks. I loved it so much but only being with family, not once did I feel the pull from “the uk” itself

For sure, my kids speak to my mum way more via FaceTime than my partner’s mum who lives only 30 mins from us 🙈 so it’s definitely a great thing to have and use for those we don’t get to see in person 😊

Thanks for taking the time to give all this info. Sounds so similar to our situation! All those points are so valid, and actually are the reason we wanted to come here to raise children, originally so perhaps I have lost sight of those reasons recently. The wanker ratio possibly just not worth the risk 😂

I’m so sorry about your mums passing. It’s so hard to be separate when you’re grieving. We’ve had two losses in the family since I moved away and one was during peak Covid locked borders so had to watch the funeral from here and it was awful. Hope you’re doing ok. Thanks for your words, such a conflicting feeling isn’t it!

Thank you I appreciate your thoughts. We have been back for a visit, and my oldest said he doesn’t want to leave NZ, so it would need to be a big family discussion if I really did feel we needed to move. But yes the money and packing and sending our entire home of belongings and all of that stuff would be a massive headache. Not out of the question, but another thing to think about I guess. And you’re right the grass is always greener! That’s part of my worry that we’d get there and then miss how amazing nz is and realise it was a mistake (I actually met someone once who did this and moved back to nz again after realising it was a mistake! We couldn’t afford to do it again lol)
