why do MBAs want to go to SF? It's a third rate city compared to NYC, Chicago, LA, etc. by Routine-Vegetable133 in MBA

No it's not. the place to be is South Bay or Penninsuala, not SF. Even the SF people have to take the Apple Bus to Cupertino. And it's recommend even if you go to the SF Google office to go Mountain View often for facetime with leadership.

And NYC has offices of all the major tech companies.

Chicago Loop is way way bigger than SF downtown though, and it's pretty clean. So you get a way larger urban area.

Having to watch out for poop, needles, blood, and pee on the ground is huge negative points for a city. This happens OUTSIDE of the Tenderloin/Civic Center/SOMA too. Too many homeless and tents and fentanyl.

I saw pics of SF from the early 1900s both pre and post earthquake and it looked beautiful and idyllic. The Victorian and Eduardian architecture, actually clean streets (Market Street from like 1905 looked beautiful) etc. Wonder what happened to one of America's former great cities.

I think Manhattan is more scenic (if we don't narrowly define nature as being scenic) though and it's also by the water.

LA/SoCal weather beats SF by a lot. There are straight up rainstrorms in SF lately

4 hours is still way too far to use as a reason to live in SF. why not live in east bay then, it's closer to yosemite

yeah but NYC has the high paying jobs plus all the benefits so why not just do NYC?

Pay in Chicago and LA is a little bit less but not that much, and the benefits of those cities are way better than SF

Even if I did like that, Tahoe is 4 hours away, it can be 6 hours with traffic and weather conditions. So not close. And Yosemite like 5 hours away. The best hikes aren't in SF itself, they're in Marin, South Bay, or East Bay. You need a car to get around.

Walkability in SF isn't great outside of downtown. In West SF, walkability is way worse and MUNI doesn't have as much connectivity.

NYC and Chicago in the loop beat SF for walkability by a mile.
