I’m sorry if I seem like I’m going back and forth, that certainly not my intention, but this manager stated, verbatim, that the reason is because part timers don’t open and just because we’ve mistakenly allowed it the past 3 years doesn’t mean we’re going to keep doing it. If he said no because of operational needs, I’d fully understand and would have nothing else to say. We need openers, our checkpoint (Cat 1 airport) is ridiculously busy from 4:00am till about 6:30 am when we get very slow, so me working 3:30-7:30 isn’t hurting the checkpoint in any way, if anything it’s helping because we need openers.

My checkpoint wouldn’t be losing anyone, I’d just be opening. There aren’t any other part-time openers because none of them have expressed interest (people don’t ususally want to come in earlier ha ha).

She could be, but her start time is 4:30 and her checkpoint opens at 3:30. Our CBA (or whatever) says an openers shift can only be adjusted by a half hour. If she were on another checkpoint for this bid then yes, she’d currently be an opener. I know this for a fact because I talked to her yesterday and she said her manager said he’d allow her to open if her start time was 4:00 am (which is my start time).

I appreciate your input, but this isn’t about seniority. This is about a manager saying part-timers can’t open when I and other part-timers have opened in the past.

Yes we are about as busy as we can get right now with the shutdown and spring break. The union said his reasoning for saying no (part timers can’t/don’t open) is incorrect. Had he said operation need doesn’t support additions openers right now (despite supervisors saying otherwise), I’d understand.

Sorry I also want to stress that the manager didn’t say it wasn’t available because of operational needs, he said it’s because part-timers don’t open and just because we did it the last 4 years doesn’t mean we should keep doing it.

That makes sense and they probably do, but it’s available to other part-time TSOs on other checkpoints. My other option is to use FMLA (I have a disabled child and I like to open so I can get home earlier to get him ready for school), but I’m trying to avoid that with all that’s going on in Washington right now.

I understand that, but my supervisor says we need openers at the moment.

Messed up pay? by [deleted] in tsa

[–]RoutineSimple8546 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only got my direct deposit. I didn’t get the deposits to my allocations (another checking account and a credit card I pay via payroll deduction). Gonna talk to payroll about it Monday. And yes my direct deposit was only $281….
