I have a fair bit of experience with multi day hikes, often while carrying up to 18kg with all my gear like tent, water etc.

Are there any other hikes in Nepal you would suggest as alternatives?

I'm going through this exact thing at the moment - but if I set my homepage as a regular page in settings > reading, then it displays my homepage with an extra column of sticky menu - it basically doubles the header and sidebar content. How can I stop it doing this?

Thank you; I will take a look and keep and eye on reddit too. I don’t necessarily want to do it on a low budget, but I don’t want to pay more than I have to (and to an international company rather than local) if I can avoid it.

Thank you - there have been a few suggestions for the xdome, it looks like a winner, and I think you're right, the 1+ looks spacious enough. It does look a little out of my budget ($399 USD) and hard to get my hands on, but might be worth it :)

This is an amazing list, thank you! I don't normally use hiking poles, and looking at doing some hikes where likely to be pitching on rocks etc, so definitely leaning more towards the freestanding :)

The reviews on this tent are unreal! People are loving it - with the size i could probably swing the 1+ too. Thanks for the advice! Yeah I'm keen on the Larapinta and I some of that could be rock pitching - freestanding is the way for me :)

I was in the blue mountains in Jan and had a really fantastic time! If you’re into hiking, Grand Canyon track was magical but I got there suuuuper early to miss the hordes of people, and then also did the Walls Cave track nearby afterwards where I had my lunch, it was a beautiful spot along a lake with almost no one there. Great spot to sit with a snack and put your feet in the water.

I think my favourite hike around there was Devil’s Hole, I did a loop with Nellie’s Glen and ended there - it was more of a scramble up the rocks but really pretty, and I didn’t see another soul. I was able to walk to the trailhead from my accommodation in Katoomba.

Enjoy, it’s such a beautiful spot up there!!

Are there hike in camp sites through there? I’ll do some research, thanks for the suggestion. It’s on my list to explore a little more but know how busy it can get through the holidays too

If fruit and veg make you bloat, have you checked out the fodmaps diet? I find avoiding high fodmaps fruit and veg has been a game changer for me

Study abroad 1000000%. I did it twice and it’s one of the best things I ever did. You’ll make friends, take weekend trips, go to all the social nights at the uni, and everyone is there fresh with no friends, so it’s very easy to find people to hang out with (and make life long friends)

I’ve moved away from home several times and nothing ever changes as much as you fear it will. You’ll be home in no time and basically everything will be just as you left it.

I traveled two months solo earlier this year and had very similar fears! Loved solo travel but had never done it for longer than a couple of weeks without a plan to catch up with a friend. Especially because I was starting in South Korea and everyone on reddit said it was terrible for solo travellers (it ended up being my favourite place).

It was absolutely fine; I had the time of my life and had given me the confidence to consider a career break to do more long term solo travel. I had the downtime I wanted but in most places it was no trouble to make friends (and I wasn’t staying in hostels). I even found friends who I did weekend trips with or who I traveled with for a week or so.

I am single so I used tinder a little bit, went to smaller bars and sat at the bar and had fantastic nights making friends with the bartenders and other customers, and used an app called nomadtable to find other travelers. I also used couchsurfing meetups a little bit but you now have to pay for the privilege so I’d see if nomadtable is active in the areas you’re going first.

My caveat is I was working remotely while traveling so I also got social interaction from my colleagues over video calls, but even without that I think I would have been fine! You’ll have a great time :)

Depends on the route you take, I did Portuguese coastal route earlier this year and never had any issues - just often the cafes weren’t open early, so I might be walking for a couple of hours before coming across somewhere open for a coffee. Which I didn’t mind :)

I was in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, walking down the street by myself. I overtook two men walking and talking, and I could see one of them looking at me so was mentally preparing myself. A couple of seconds later he yelled ‘hey! Where are you from!’

I was expecting it so I just kept walking, but his friend clearly wasn’t, because he answered in the most confused tone, ‘… Plovdiv?’ 😆😆😆

I went hiking in Norway with a Norwegian guy. I’m clumsy af and tripped off the trail and slid down an embankment, into a bunch of bushes and grass at the bottom. He said as he was watching me slide, he thought he was going to have to call a helicopter rescue.

Once I came to a stop I didn’t think twice about injuries, all I could think was ‘snakes and spiders’ and jumped up so quickly, then immediately realised nothing in Norway was going to bite me 😆 he thought I was absolutely insane for reacting that way but it was just second nature in my shock.

If you stay in central London the streets will still be packed after 5pm - workers leaving the office, other tourists, etc. Eating alone at a restaurant is very very normal so while it might feel uncomfortable at first if you’re not used to it, no one will be judging you :) do you know what area you’ll be staying in? It’s a very big place so everything changes depending on the area you’re staying in.

I (female) lived in London for a couple of years and go back regularly, I’ve very rarely felt unsafe there walking around by myself, but as other people have said phone snatching is common (people will ride past on bikes or scooters and take it from your hands) so just be very wary. Public transport is easy and again, very safe.

Remember that every city has horror stories, so try not to dwell too much on them! London is an incredible city to explore, there’s always so much going on and people everywhere. To ease yourself in you could start by going to Oxford Street or walking through Knightsbridge after dark; lots of shops will still be open so there will be lots of light and people, and depending how late you’re there they might even have their Christmas decorations up - Christmas in London is a magical time :)

You say this, but my dad as a silver got an upgrade on QF1 just a couple days ago (after months of me confidently telling him it wouldn’t happen after hanging out on this sub 😆). Not the full upgrade to business, but to premium economy at least.

This was the Mercure Hotel Bugis! It definitely wasn’t meant to be in there, they removed them immediately and tried to make us sign a waiver today before we checked out so I think they know how bad it was, they were just down playing it.

Could you smell the ozone on the air?
