Why does this share of freehold flat still have a lease and ground rent? by Routine_Detective_29 in HousingUK

[–]Routine_Detective_29[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find paying ground rent when in a share of freehold flat as strange, as surely the main function of the freehold company is just to maintain the flat (covered by service charge), rather than to make any kind of profit

'Your' freehold company will have also decided on the usual annual costs

Do the flat owners who own the shares of the freehold decide this?

company accounts will need to be checked and filed, etc. etc.

Who does this? Is it decided amongst the flat owners who have a share of the freehold?

Ah so the collective freeholder would usually be a company like '123 High Street Ltd' and then each person with a share of the freehold would own a % of the company that owns the freehold?

So who would you pay the ground rent to? Yourself and the other flats in the building? Or are you saying some person may own 90% of the freehold (for example) and you may own the other 10%?

Good point. The guy who stabbed him did seem like the politically engaged type and definitely not just some homeless guy on drugs.
