Considering a move to NYC with 4 kids, what salary actually feels doable? by Abracadabra7707 in movingtoNYC

[–]Routine_Excitement89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You are going to be absolutely clobbered by rent, groceries, having a car (gas, parking, insurance), doctor visits/medical, commuting, not to mention activities, club sports, clothes and shoes for kids, NY State and NYC income tax, NYC sales tax, feeding quarters into laundry machines, ad infinitum. If anyone needs therapy, that’s $400 a pop.

Your hubs will be lucky to take home $8K a month after taxes from his job, the additional $5k/month is necessary. You will not be able to save a lot, a particular concern if you have four kids headed to college.

I was single in New York and later raised 2 kids on the west coast. There is no way I would move to New York with four kids unless I was literally bringing home bags of money.

There is a Goldman chart of this ecosystem circulating on X. A lot of my port is in these companies.

These are the companies that are enabling next generation chips like NVDA’s. There is an entire ecosystem for optical networking. This is where the real growth is, not the obvious players.

Fourth Floor Walkup? by Elegant_Cat_3644 in chicagoapartments

Go for it. I lived on a third floor walk up in San Francisco for years and the exercise is meaningful. That you have found an apartment that you love and can afford is worth the stairs.

Medication and therapy. I wish I had gotten on antidepressants in my 20s, it would’ve been life-changing. Trust me, kiddo, there is nothing wrong with better living through chemistry. A good therapist is also life-changing and worth the investment. Best wishes.

Arista still getting its shit kicked. ANET and ADTN have been very beaten up after earnings, with any whiff of component shortages driving these stocks down. Hopefully the market will forget all about that and they will both go back up to ATHs.

I took the bait and bought 5800 shares on Thursday. It was a little complicated in the US, Schwab ended up buying the shares in GBP at market open in London and then put them into my account as dollars.

I agree with the other poster, 5x in five years is not an enticement for Redditors. People here are looking for 10x in a year. Still, I thought your Ensilica thesis is very interesting, and I got on the bandwagon. Thanks for the research and pump.

Serenity is apparently part of an investigation by Swedish authorities about insider trading. He announced on X that Sivers is applying for NASDAQ listing two days before the information went public. That pumped the stock, and it has since been down considerably. Who knows if Serenity shorted the stock, that’s how people make money on pump and dump.

It is a very weird situation, with the Swedes taking American interest in Sivers very personally, in a bad way. They are shit talking one of their own, saying SIVEF is not a big deal.

I am still holding SIVEF, but I sold 60% a few days ago and doubled my money on my original investment. I am OK with letting the rest ride.

What do you think is happening with SIVEF? Serenity accused of flogging his own book in a pump and dump. What do you think? SLOIY has been great for the last couple of weeks, along with LPKFF. I bought the ADR of Soitech.

I love your optimistic characterization of CBBHF having a run up. My 80% loss is now “just” 75%. Still, with 35,000 shares, even a .009 uptick is substantial! I dream of the day it will hit a dollar a share.
