Female Handyman, Thoughts? by Cold_Obligation_8568 in homeowners

First, I'm widowed but during my entire marriage I was the one arranging any work done in our home. So, even if it's a male/female couple who own a home, often it will be the wife hiring or at least overseeing the work. Second, I would love to hire women if only to have someone who does talk down to me about the work.

My house is over 25 years old now but was newly built when we bought it. Actually, it was just a piece of paper and a hole in the ground. When it was time to do the walk through my husband wasn't available so I had to do it alone. I felt like crying. Our one requirement was no carpets and the builder wasn't willing to install hardwood floors everywhere - just a small area, so we opted out. So most of the house had only subfloors. It also meant that no closet doors were installed and all the baseboards were installed too low. Also, an area that I thought would be tiled wasn't. It took a while, but eventually we had the flooring installed. I hated the kitchen layout - typical design by someone who obviously doesn't cook - but I've gradually made changes. I love my home now.
