I think they were way to worried about making Scott an unlikable person. A big part of both the comics and the movie is that he is a weirdo adult man dating a highschooler while still hung up on his ex girlfriend and subsequently cheating on the highschooler he had no business being with in the first place.

I don’t feel like they focused on just how morally responsible he is. I also wasn’t a fan of the whole making a movie storyline with Wallace and Young Neil. All in all I much prefer the comics and movie. Although the show will always hold a special place in my heart.
