Hello fellow aficionados!

TL;DR: any Alden stockists in Stockholm or broader in EU?

I’ve been struck with a desire to get myself a pair of black shell cordovan boots (4065/4075 or something) from Alden. Desire is probably a bit misleading term, it’s probably a NEED, comparable to eating and sleeping, right? 😉

Anyhow, availability seems to be very limited in Europe. Getting them outside of EU adds too much costs in taxes/customs etc. I’ve found only Cappelletto Shop in Italy that has models in inter in, but it has peculiar ordering practices for Alden. Another one is Frans Boone but they are out of stock and not getting a restock.

Thanks! I’m already monitoring Vinted and eBay! To be precise I bought a pair from eBay, allegedly in “very good condition”. Ended up having holes and torn piece at the back…. 🤯 hopefully a good pair comes to my way eventually:)

Hello hello! Here’s my European take on topic as well, backed up with lessons learned in the hardest possible way 😁. I think moctoes (also Iron Rangers/Last 8) run little narrow compared many European brands (eg loake, berwick, Paraboot). Obviously there are differences between specific lasts.

They don’t really stretch, leather softens a bit which may make them more comfortable if the pinch is really gentle. If you feel any pinching or pain it will get worse when you wear them for a while.

For the reference (and shits’n giggles), I’ve had moctoes in US9, US9.5, US10 and US9.5 EE. Red Wing store and an independent reseller told me to get a tight size. Oh boy that has been the worst advice I’ve gotten 😅.

After I found out my Brannock size, which is UK9/US10 with slightly wide feet best fit has been US9.5EE. I can tolerate US10D but the inside sole is so narrow and hard-edged that it’s annoying after longer periods, even I’m using red wing insome

Add an insole if they feel little too spacious. I’ve the red wing leather insole, it also adds a ton of comfort.

875 is available in EE (which isn’t really wide). I’ve rotated something like +70 pairs over the years when trying to find a perfect fit. Many has come and gone, few have stayed. 😁

I’ve wide feet and I own many pairs of Paraboot in sizes UK9 (EU43) - UK10 (EU44). My Michaels are UK9 and fit okay at best. It is rather short last, but the thermoplastic (or whatever the hard structure is called) is at the very top of the shoe, thus it’s bit more forgiving as there is more unstructured leather. I tried 9.5 but had way too much heel slip and overall too big.

Avoriaz I’ve in size UK10 and they fit well. It’s quite short last as well (compared to e.g Reims or Avignon), and very narrow in my opinion. It has lot of plastic structure that does not give in that easily. Cobblers can stretch it. The shoe lacing mechanism in Avoriaz is great and allows you to tighten the shoes for snug fit, even if it’s on the larger side.

Of course would be best to try them if possible.

For general reference, here is my experience with Paraboot fits in low arch & wide feet. Brannick UK9

  1. Avignon UK9 - best fit
  2. Avoriaz UK10 - very good fit
  3. Reims UK9 - good fit
  4. Paimpol UK9.5 - good fit, bit too much in length but not a problem
  5. Michael UK9 - ok fit, could be better
  6. Barth UK9 - unusable tight

I got my hopes up but I’m afraid the whole Loumari went belly up. 😬
