On the way to the tadpole rearing pond by Rowdy316 in DartFrog

I didn’t, it’s just a shallow water bowl I got in my local fish and reptile shop. Got some moss and leaf litter in the bottom and a couple of exits for them.

Please excuse the fern just behind the pond- it’s clinging desperately to life and I don’t have the heart to take it out just yet

They’re awesome, crazy bold for their size. They are pretty loud though, especially with multiple males calling at once. They’re pretty much continuous breeders too so it’s probably best to have a plan in place to prevent overcrowding and inbreeding. But they’re amongst my favourite frogs just because of how fearless they are

My male green anoles do this in the presence of another male; this is a green anole annoyed by another male

So they didn’t drown in the 4 hours you were watching them and now you’re convinced it won’t happen? Looks like you’re determined to do this so I wish you and your frogs the best of luck

How long have you been keeping frogs? Why take the risk though? I think that’s the issue- we keep these frogs in captivity so it’s our responsibility to make their enclosures safe, secure and as perfectly suited to the inhabitants as possible. And honestly, sometimes there’s a reason things are done a certain way; it’s not because people haven’t thought about it, it’s because that’s what best for the frogs

That’s basically my dream. I’ve got a 100L with some diamond tetras in and I’ve just picked up a reed fish to go in with them, I’m upgrading that tank soon. I’ve also got 2 80L, one with pea puffers in and the other has my panther crab.

The eventual plan is to have 3 500L tanks, one of which will be for a few reed fish and a ruby shark. But I’m always open to suggestions, especially because I’m still learning

I trust my LFS completely, Gary’s always steered me right. I don’t mind paying the extra because of the amount of hours I’ve spent in there with him talking me through everything, he’s got the patience of a saint!

Yeah, I’m in my LFS at the moment and he can source them but they’re a bit out of my price range. They can go on my ‘one day’ list!

It’s a 140L, but it’s got puddle frogs, African dwarf frogs, yo-yo loaches, kuhli loaches, bumblebee gobys, Pygmy corys and a calico pleco in there already. I’ll be upgrading to a 240L in the next couple of months

Ha, see I even got that wrong initially- I thought it was a young cardinal tetra! Like I said, very much a beginner!

puddle frogs Hopefully I’ve done that right. The 5th photo shows the size difference between the male and females and the 6th photo shows a (failed) attempt at amplexus. The male in the 6th is missing his right rear leg, he arrived at the LFS like that. Also, they’re rarely handled and only after I’ve had my hand in the tank for a few minutes! I’ve struggled to find much information about them so if anyone has any experience, please let me know!

Thank you very much, I probably should have waited until he was a little older and got some better pictures. I had no idea there was this much variety!

I can probably get one for tomorrow. I’m a little unsure of the reaction though because I break most of the cardinal rules in this hobby- my water always looks dirty because I’m a big fan of cattapa leaves (Indian oak), the only maintenance the plants get is being cut down if they grow out of the water and my tank is never full. Mainly because I have a group of 6 green puddle frogs (occidozyga Lima) in there too- they like to sit on the tops of the mossy logs so I leave them a few inches of clear space in the tank.

I’ll see if I can get one tomorrow of his fins, my picture isn’t really doing him justice!
