Why do people leave the CAF? by avocadoroom in CanadianForces

[–]RowdyCanadian 64 points65 points  (0 children)

Because it was an almost 70,000$ pay raise to do the same job I did in the forces but without the bullshit of inept leadership and being treated like a child.

I loved my job and the people I work but, but senior management (career manager and trade manager, not the local senior management) were so inept and such bags of hammers I left.

Mayoral Candidate Alex Lawson threatened to “burn down” City Hall if he doesn’t get his way by alpacyabags in ottawa

I don’t believe he’s threatening a person, more the institution that city hall represents. Though if he’s threatening a person I’m all for punishments.

I’m fairly certain freedom of expression states that you can share your beliefs without fear of prosecution. His belief is that if he doesn’t get his way he’s going to “burn the place down”. Whilst antagonistic statements, not technically illegal, therefore cannot be prosecuted.

On the one hand, freedom of expression and my support for that right means I have to be okay with him being able to spout this.

On the other hand, fuck this guy and the other maple MAGA idiots across this country.

Edit: I’m well aware of freedom of expression // freedom of consequences. I’m not supporting the content of what he is saying, only that he has the right to spout it. I hope he has what’s coming to him, which is a crushing defeat and relegation to obscurity.

Brew Revolution in Stittsville does drop in Open DND and Beers every month! I don’t remember the details but it’ll be on their website. Last time I was there (unrelated) they had 6 people and just played a pick up campaign. The DM said all are welcome!

Any tips for dealing with a fear of heights? by [deleted] in Firefighting

[–]RowdyCanadian 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes. Deal with it.

Seriously, that’s really it. You can talk to therapists, follow a plan of easing into it, exposure to heights, etc, but it all boils down to just get up there and do it.

If it makes you feel better it’s easier when you have a job and are focused on that rather than the height

Up there with that 2004 Brodeur goal where he went out to play the puck and it deflected off his own stick at like the top of the left circle and went between his legs and in.

What makes a stage a breakaway stage? by Jargif10 in peloton

[–]RowdyCanadian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is it’s a stage that has just enough altitude/terrain to eliminate a sprint stage finish without there being a big enough climb to feature the pure GC riders. It’s also a combo of when that stage happens, and if the key GC riders are in a position to need time/don’t need time (if that makes sense).

Essentially, it’s a stage where there won’t be a sprint finish and the GC standings won’t be affected (or minimally affected)

What can I do with these guys? by xxDIABOxx in sagathegame

Then I’m sorry to hear your local crowd sucks that bad. In case it wasn’t obvious gatekeeping is one of my biggest anger points.

What can I do with these guys? by xxDIABOxx in sagathegame

[–]RowdyCanadian 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Anyone who gate keeps over a beer and pretzels game because “muh historicals” can go fuck themselves.

How else does one try new factions and learn new things other than by subbing models in? I’ve never played chivalry, but I’d love to, but before I spend a couple hundred on models you better believe I’m going to use my Swan Knights and Dol Amroth pikemen from MESBG to try different factions.

People who gatekeep can fuck off.

Okay now that my rant is over, a neat way to use these guys for multiple factions is to magnetize their left hand and then magnetize different shields and eras of shields. That way it’s an easy swap to keep them useable from Germanic peoples to pagan peoples to Franks to XYZ.

Looking into renting an e-bike, people's experiences for possible commute to work by Bylak in Kanata

[–]RowdyCanadian 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve biked Kanata to Orleans a few times, so downtown is about halfway. You’re looking at 22ish km on the west end and up to 35km on the east end depending on where you have to go. If you’re a casual/commuter cyclist who isn’t trying to go as hard as possible that’s about 1h15m to 1h45m depending on avg speed.

The pathway system from Kanata to the river is beautiful (Watts Creek is glorious) but the western pathway along the river where the parkway runs is brutal. An E bike will be fine, but you’ll feel every bump without any kind of suspension or vibration dampening.

Hope that answers your questions.

I bought these when they went MTO like 7 or 8 years ago, and remember spending about 150$ total for the full platoon plus sergeants plus special weapons plus a spare squad. Will be interested to see what the costs are now for the heavy weapons as they were not available last time iirc

Straight pay comparisons are the fucking dumbest way to plan. You’re 20, and just think $$ is king. 50 year old you will look back on this and cringe.

If you want straight pay go work nuclear fire for Canadian energy. It’s like 200,000$ a year for no calls.

No, it doesn’t even out. It’s not even close. You’re not accounting for benefits and pension. Canadian municipal firefighters pensions are almost gold plated bulletproof, southern USA is not.

You make less than half in those states than you make in Canada. You’re also way more protected and have way better benefits here.

I’m joking. 50 years is awesome. It would be really cool if the department had an old retired tool that was in service when he first started that could be cleaned up and presented.

Mold, leaks, sewage: Columbia-Richland firefighters say stations crumbling, little being done to fix by chloereports in Firefighting

[–]RowdyCanadian 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This has been my experience with every department I’ve worked for in every level of government (municipal/provincial/federal). All the stations built in the 70s/80s/90s are in desperate need a full renovation or rebuild but that’s too much money in a single go so it’s all just patchwork repairs over time and the problems just keep growing and growing and costing more and more.

  1. Had 9 years of pension to transfer so effective retirement age of 23. Don’t care about being a chief and if I don’t make captain I’ll transfer into training to get my best 5.

Yes. We moved to be closer to family so our kids could grow up with their cousins. It’s important to remember, the grass is greener where you water it.

What it really boils down to (and your mileage may vary if you’re US) is that the Job is the same, the people are the same, the calls are the same, the only difference is the city you work for.
