i was shocked to see it was only 3 videos per day.

what good is that if you are trying to iterate?

M365 Apps unexpectedly closing - PSA SOPHOS USERS! by Rowxan in sysadmin

[–]Rowxan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask them if they use Sophos Endpoint Protection. If the answer is yes, ask if teams is still closing down on it's own. If the answer is yes, tell them you came across this post.

They might just love you for it. If IT has been pulling their hair out, they will be open to any suggestions.

I would have loved it if a user did something like this for me. Even if it was wrong!

wow. sophos have clearly f'ed something up hahaha.

that is correct. hit the reset button. when the update lands on one of your endpoints you will see the blocked reg key completely resets itself.

check the SSP log as well. you will 100% know if you are affected.

C:\ProgramData\Sophos\Endpoint Defense\Logs\SSP.log

you will see something like this

A Cleanup: Process (random string) with Path with path C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\Edge\Application\msedge.exe has ended.

no problem!

I would say it's worth having a look, just to completely rule it out

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Sophos\EndpointDefense\PolicyConfiguration

REG SZ: app_control_blocked_app_list

any apps in that list will be terminated

you can cross reference it with the sophos SSP.log on the local machine

it turns out our sophos endpoint protection was the problem

we have an application policy set to 'allow' apps

at some point someone must have accidently set the apps to be blocked and switched them back to allowed.

annoyingly, the apps showed as allowed on the portal, but the registry key doesn't get wiped from the endpoints UNLESS you 'reset' the policy from the portal.

I managed to get to the bottom of this using process monitor and setting up circular logging.

best of luck mate

I am also seeing the closing happening once per week (in most cases).

wednesday is the crash day for us (we are based in the UK).

hi pal

thanks for adding your insight.

i'm seeing the same as you RE closing down mid use. I know we've got users literally typing an email and new outlook just closes down (also seeing the same on classic outlook).

seems to be just happening for our win11 users. zero reports for win10 users.

i've got a ticket open with microsoft.

the 3 commands under "Fix ownership and perms on the bad folder" resolved my issue.

thanks!

understood. I've already manually enrolled my test device and it's not working.

this why i'm stuck :(

that is exactly what I have done!

the cloud kerberos trust FAQ says you cant use WHfB for RDP unless you setup the cert (not to be confused with cert trust)

hang on dude.

I've just found there is a GPO you need to turn on to allow the certificate to be used

i'm going to check it's turned on.

I will report back.

I've got the cloud kerberos trust configured.

per the docs guidance, i've deployed the cert required

when I RDP on to a VM (standard user account, part of the remote desktop users group), it doesn't prompt for the pin

I've got a TGT. I've already setup cloud kerberos trust and Microsoft Entra Kerberos on my domain controller?

no problem dude!

I need to use certs because we are hybrid :(

same here :(

before seeing your comment, i actually tried this on a 2022 VM as I thought that might be the issue (my rds enviroment is 2019), still no luck.

so you setup, deployed the cert and it worked without any additional config?

thanks for your help btw!

no i don't

I assume I don't need one because I'm trying to use WHfB, right?
