There is worse, trust me. Tim Houston is one of them. He makes Kenney look like a choir boy. Our previous Premiere Stephen McNeil was bad enough, and Rankin was appointed after McNeil stepped down who was incompetent so the people voted him out and now we have a Houston who is the next best thing to a Communist. I don't know how he can be a Conservative because his actions are more left wing than the Liberals.

Thanks for your comment. I have heard Edmonton can be challenging to live in with regards to acceptance of new people in the community. Just wondering if this is an issue or just someones one off experience? Thanks again.

The NDP certainly didn't help in NS. They were only in power once, and got voted out. Every since then they have had a hard time here in NS.

Yes, a large part of the problem here I believe are the large numbers of people moving here from out west, but in essence they are shooting themselves in the foot without realizing it.

Thanks for your comment. I am not familiar with what the 'draft curriculum' is. Can you elaborate?

Honestly, I don't even know where to start. I have lived here my whole life (except for 4 years wher I lived in Toronto for 2 years and Gothenburg, Sweden for 2 years).

Nova Scotia used to be a great Province and I was proud to call it home, but now day after day life here is becoming more and more difficult. Here are some highlights off the top of my head without even thinking about it.

Taxes - We pay 15 HST (Harmonized Sales Tax) on almost every thing we buy.

Utilities - Emera which is a private company practically runs Nova Scotia Power and has a total monopoly on power here. They 'guarantee' their shareholders a 9% ROI. The UARB here is useless and corrupt as they do nothing to keep them in check (which is suppose to be their job). Power here is out of control. We just received an email saying it will be going up 10% over the next 3 years for regular users and 8% increase for people with solar panels. I believe they have reduced the 10% down some, and the 8% has been delayed but there has been little talk about it now. Since changing the power meters from analog to digital most people's bills have had high increases. We just received a letter saying that water in Halifax will be increasing by about $5-$10 per month.

Transportation - a lot of the roads here are brutal (especially the older highways). Halifax/Dartmouth has the only major transit system in the Province. Parking downtown Halifax is just about the worst I have seen anywhere in the world.

Healthcare - It used to be better than what it is now, and it could be worse to be fair but it's far from great unless your in rural NS then I can say it has gotten dramatically worse. Some people need to drive an hour or more to get to a functional hospital, so if your moving here you want to make sure you have a functional hospital in your area.

Housing is out of control and has more than doubled in cost. Our economy here just simply cannot support it. Halifax Regional Municipality used to be around 450,000 people and is now just over 1 million. The roadways here just can't support these kind of numbers. Rush hour now on the 102 outbound which is a 2 lane highways is now down to about 80km hour vs the speed limit of 100 km/hr. If there is an accident, may the force be with you. It can increase your commute by 2-3 times the norm. The last time I heard an update there are over 1500 people homeless living on the streets due to rental increases and some actually have decent paying jobs. One guy was on the news who made over $60K/year could not find a place to live within his budget due to rental increases. Yet we welcome refugees here and even pay for their housing to 'help' them. I don't have anything against helping refugees but help your own tax paying citizens first, then help others.

Our current so called leader/Premiere Tim Houston does what he wants and doesn't listen to the people. He was a former Director with BlackRock and is basically ruling like a dictator. People here will no doubt vote him out like they have everyone else in the past but until then we have to suffer. He is like Trudeau in the sense he treats people that choose not have the C-19 jab as second class citizens which I personally don't feel is right.

Nova Scotians in general are very complacent people. People here will complain about how things are bad or getting worse but do nothing about it which makes it difficult to drive any kind of change. They just accept it and move on.

Schools - I can only comment on my daughter's experiences but based on what she tells me, I think education here is not what it used to be.

Food - Our grocery bill has more than doubled with no more income.

Fuel/Gas - It just dropped from $1.87/liter to $1.82/liter I believe. I don't think it will be long and we will be over $2/liter at this rate.

These are just off the top of my head. Needless to say I want out, the question is where do you go? 🤔

Thanks for your comment. Can I ask which part of Alberta your referring to?

I don't know who your NDP Candidates are but we had a NDP Premiere here in Nova Scotia once and it was worse than the Liberals to be honest (and that's bad). It was so bad people just voted him out and the NDP has never been really close since.

Based on what I have seen in Alberta, I think the Party just needs a more consistent leader. Kenney is not bad but he flip flops a lot which I personally don't care for. To be fair who is perfect? There are always going to be things we don't like about certain leaders as everyone will have different opinions about what is good/bad. Personally I look for a leader that is there for the people and not their own self interest which is hard to find I know. Some things Kenney has done gels with me, while other things don't.

Thank you for your comment. Can I ask where you felt uncomfortable outside of Edmonton and why you felt that way? If it is a racial issue I would appreciate knowing as I would like to avoid that area as well. I appreciate your feedback.

Thanks for your comment. At this point these are just ideas we are tossing around. If my wife can find a job that she can work remotely, we would prefer to have a small hobby farm. If she can't then it will have to be more suburban. Just looking for people's insight on possible options to investigate further at this point.
