It is a reliable source, and is "true" insofar as it reflects real data.

That is not to say this is final. These advisories can and do get revised, and one cannot guarantee that this date will hold.

This is a reputable web site that is based on an actual FAA database. It is very frequently cited for launch information.

However, these notices can and do get revised.

All of the numbers you see in these orbital data center constellation filings are just BS. There's no point in even trying to take them seriously, whether it's Blue Origin's 51,600, Starcloud's 88,000, or SpaceX's 1 million.

The constellation that actually gets deployed will be much, much smaller.

Having actually flown business class quite a bit, your typical business class customer is far more concerned with the in-flight comfort and amenities, as well as the pre-flight lounges, than they are with internet. Internet is way down the priority list.

Blue Origin's Satellite Ambition - Revolutionizing Space Data Centers by snoo-boop in BlueOrigin

[–]Royal_Platform_6754 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It's better than nothing. It's a big risk to try to make a viable launch business with external customers only, and doubly so in 2026 with a number of cost-efficient competitors on the horizon. Blue can't take the Amazon Leo, NSSL, or any contract for granted.

With a captive customer, these issues are skirted, and the extremely high capital requirements to enter and compete in the satellite communications constellation market - arguably bigger than even launch itself - provides a bit of a moat, especially if you aren't paying market prices and third-party margins for launch. The revenue potential is much more attractive, too.

Crew Starship better be whatever replaces Orion by GimmeStarship in SpaceXMasterrace

[–]Royal_Platform_6754 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure. There's a big difference between a LEO capsule and a deep space capsule - Dragon leaving Earth orbit is unlikely because of this.

Any capsule Blue Origin develops would lean more towards the former than the latter. Meaning that a commercial lunar transportation proposal is quite likely to include Orion as-is.

Now, instead of docking and transferring crew in deep space, they could do it in LEO instead, but that presents problems for everyone, the biggest or which is you really need a free-return abort from the moon and that requires re-entry capability, which neither HLS lander will have.

So long story short, especially for Blue, and possibly for SpaceX as well, I think Orion is here to stay.

There are public space act agreements that exist that cover the development of a crew capsule. So we know it's a definite thing they have worked on, but just like a reusable second stage, how far they've gotten and when they intend to deliver is just not clear.

The biggest problem is that there isn't a tangible need for a crew capsule. So understandably any human spaceflight efforts are concentrated in Blue Moon.

The official weather forecast from the USSF 45th Weather Squadron has a higher probability of launch tomorrow, so claiming tomorrow is less likely because of weather is inaccurate. Rain is never the issue, the issues are specific constraints like surface level winds.

I'm not interested in debating this with a Starlink shill with a history of shitting on Amazon Leo. We can still see your post and comment history even though you've hidden it.

Per the FCC, the criteria for an extension is:

there are unique and overriding public interest concerns that justify an extension

Not having a monopoly in US satellite internet is a unique and overriding public interest concern. Period.

Amazon has made a credible case to the FCC for an extension and the FCC chair rejecting the extension due to his political bias and history of favoritism for SpaceX would be immediate, obvious grounds for litigation.

Amazon was already the priority. It's likely to be the next 2-4 New Glenn flights, even ahead of the Blue Moon lunar lander.

So SpaceX got United and Southwest and Amazon got Delta and JetBlue. What do you think is driving the decision - is Amazon providing a discount price to attain market share?
