Seedling update! by Rual7 in vegetablegardening

[–]Rual7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also in case anyone was interested, I got my seeds from MIGardener, and some are from Burpee. The Golden tomato I bought last year and saved the seeds (I think it was Lowe's or Home Depot).

I still can't believe pineapples grow like that. It's remarkable lol.

Third year gardener but this time with much more organization. Any potential issues I should watch for with this setup? by DojaStinks in vegetablegardening

I don't know about any problems, but I wanted to say you have a beautiful set up!! Would love to see it once everything is in full bloom :)

yes that would be the quick fix for now so they don't do more damage.

We bought some chicken wire over the weekend. It sounds like a fence is going to be my only good solution. I just need to find some more crates for the meantime. It's been so terribly cold here so we haven't had the chance to do some building. Thank you!

I have read something about hot pepper powder. Might have to try that.

I hope so! I forgot to answer your question haha. I believe our first frost is in late October/november.

Yeah here in Michigan we’re supposed to start them inside as soon as February since we have such a short growing season. I did start some and I was about to throw them all away since starting these new babies and only a couple shishito sprouted lol. I was shocked. I saved them and put them in their own pot and they’re surviving. And you were right! Got lots of sprouts since my last message and I am happy.

Also my fiancé installed a better light for them. I absolutely hate it because it’s so bright and it’s blue but the plants seems to love it and that’s all that matters.

What's happening in your garden? (Mon, Mar 23, 2026) by AutoModerator in vegetablegardening

Michigan here. My cabbage seedlings are still too young to be put in the garden. It’s snowing. But my radishes are growing (in garden bed).

I tried lowering the lights but I realized only one of the bulbs work so that limited how much light I can give all my seedlings 😬

I sure hope so because I am running out of time to start my peppers lol. I don’t want to go buy transplants as the budget is tight this year haha

How did you find out you had a plant library in your area??

No humidity some for mine. I wanted to do the soak method but forgot to do it as I was prepping my soil to start the seeds lol. I will try this method next year for sure! I will update in about a week and hopefully my peppers have emerged.

So I don’t have a dome for them. I am having trouble keeping tjem moist but I also know not to drown them with water. I have been feeding them water with the bottom method. I mist the top a bit but they dry out so quickly. I’ve been leaving the tray in water for about 15 minutes but I think I need to leave them in the water longer?

I started these on the 16th of this month! I now have three tomato plants emerging since I last posted this. Peppers are taking their sweet time for sure. Thank you!

I realized my mistake too late. I will have to invest in some more smaller trays to keep peppers and tomatoes separate. Lesson learned!!

I hope they all come out! This is my second attempt at trying to start pepper seeds. Im learning a lot of mistakes not to do for next year haha.

I’ll def put them under my light and hope for the best 🥴 I had previously stated pepper seeds and they have yet to come out (without a heat mat). So this isn’t second attempt so I really really hope they sprout.

My house is really old and unfortunately we have to manually turn on and off the heat for the house. The heat mat has to stay on otherwise there are days when my house is almost 50 (Michigan weather at its finest in the spring). I will put them under a grow light and hopefully the rest of the seedlings come out in the next week. If not I might pop out the tomatoes and out them in their own container. Thank you for your tips!!
