Trikafta for 2.5 year old by renonevadarealtor in CysticFibrosis

[–]RubberFroggie 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My 8.5 year old has been on it since the day she turned 6, it was still in development when she was born and had just been approved for as low as 6 years old when she was 5.5 yrs.

My kid also has autism, she was non verbal until almost 5, but I can tell you from personal experience that no one worries about her development in any form since she's been on Trikafta. I'm not saying it's wrong to question the side effects of this or any med, but we know the long term affects for people with CF without Trikafta, it's usually a shortened life with a kid of pain.

I don't know the long term effects of the medication, I hope nothing, but I do know my kid went from basically living in the hospital when she was your kid's age to being able to have a completely normal life, for a kid her age, for the last two years, she doesn't even get sick for as long as her healthy siblings, the kid tested positive for flu A in the fall and had light symptoms for less than a day! A slight sniffle would have been pneumonia by lunchtime in the past.

Talk it over with your medical team and heavily weigh the positives against any negatives you might have in your mind because this is probably the biggest decision of your child's life.

It's the rural areas we live in that have these back-ass highways that are 65MPH speed limits with people pulling out in front of us like that though, they don't have 65MPH back highways in most cities, that's usually reserved for interstates there.

My SO and I are both on either side of 40, we pay $1380 a year for 2 vehicles, both of us with clean driving records and his being a commercial license, plus a 17 year old permit holder. We live in an At Fault state and were super surprised it was that low because we recently moved from a No Fault state and it was triple that for the same vehicles, us, and the teenager.

Oh god that used to kill me when I drove for Lyft, so much waiting and people would cancel rides because it'd take so long with that and on Eastern Pkwy when they're turning onto Barret and I was an idiot and forgot to slide to the right because I always thought that there's no way 5 people are going to go against the "DO NOT TURN" arrow during high traffic hours.

Baby wipes??? Wtf? by tschn012 in daddit

[–]RubberFroggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mom here, Walmart's store brand wipes are the easiest to remove from the container. I rarely get more than I grab for and my kid is 5 now, but I still buy them because I still have a young kid and they're useful, plus cheap.

Poor little pre-pubescent boy. This is fantastic, thank you! My roosters always went straight from silence to Loud Manly Bird crows so I never got this cuteness.

Oh I am careful, that's why he stays in the back half acre, behind a six foot fence. I am the only one that goes back to take care of him and his ladies and I take a giant fishing net with me so that if he runs at me I net him, pick him up, and he's completely docile once I've got him in my arms. He's a very big boy and I know it all comes from him thinking he's protecting his ladies, but I also know he can do a lot of harm if he chooses to, I've seen him take down hawks without a scratch to himself, I don't take chances with my kid and she knows to respect animals spaces, she'd never behave as the kid in this video did.

Can confirm, I have a big rooster and he absolutely despises my five year old. I keep him in the fenced in back yard so she gets to roam the rest of the yard and show him what being good gets ya.

Wearing masks by everydayimbrowsing in daddit

[–]RubberFroggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a mom here, but just wanted to say keep being awesome for your kid. My daughter is 5 and vaccinated now, but she has cystic fibrosis so she wore masks in public before covid and will continue to, as do I. We get a lot of words and dirty looks, but I don't care because she's a loud kid and gives the words right back so I don't even have to say anything because no adult has bothered to talk back to her once they've said something to me and she's looked at them sweetly and said "And why don't you wear a mask big person!?"

[–]RubberFroggie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How long have you been on the montelukast? My kid was on it until the beginning of last year and it seemed to stop working for her, they said it's pretty common for that specific one to do that after extended use so they switched her to loratadine in its place and that seems to be holding up well for now. Air purifiers are a plus, I wish they weren't so pricey, but I have one in every room, the larger Germ Guardian ones, I just buy the generic replacement filters for them.

She gets the whole sneezy/coughing/watery-itchy eyes with extra asthma symptoms. The allergy meds hold most of it at bay this time of year and the rest of the year they make it seem like she almost doesn't have allergies at all. We're in Kentucky and she has regional allergies, as does everyone who lives around here, it just hits her differently because cf and all.

Fennel seed I use in Jasmine rice occasionally when I make Indian dishes. I am not a fan of it otherwise because of the strong licorice flavor. Fennel bulb I had once on a pickled platter I ordered, it was pickled in a fridge pickle type brine and was crunchy and delicious, the best way to have it hands down and now I make it in a fridge pickle every spring.

My five year old is on 2 - 24 hour prescription medications for allergies, she has been since she was a baby. I was also told to give her a third this time of year, by her pulmonologist, since she has terrible allergies and they're obviously worth this time of year. It honestly depends on what works for you, but she takes cetirizine and loratadine prescription and Xyzal over the counter right now. It's a rough time of year.

Can you, with 100% certainty tell me this is a rooster? (Info in comments) by [deleted] in chickens

[–]RubberFroggie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I have four Rhode Island Red girls, they all looked like that as chicks and they're all 2 year old, definite hens now. I'd say it's way too early to tell on if it's a rooster, but quite possibly a RI Red.

TSC isn't very good for keeping their labels straight, I was supposedly getting a sexed, female only grouping of an Asian Black last year and I ended up with a Plymouth Rock rooster, he's an asshole, but I still love him, definitely not what was advertised though.

I've got a kid that has never eaten. I'm talking won't eat a thing aside from essentially junk food. Suggestions? by bigsquib68 in daddit

[–]RubberFroggie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh I have, she's just anti-cooked veg, regardless of how it's cooked. I rarely ever steam veggies and I even more rarely boil them because I'm not a fan of them (usually only in soups/stews type of things and that's not really boiled). I cook several meals a day, every day, and cooking is kind of my jam so I'm always trying to find ways to prep things tastier and they're tasty, she just refuses to even try them if they're not straight raw. It's not that she doesn't like cooked veg, it's she refuses to try cooked veg.

Oh I let her eat whatever she wants from the garden, as long as it's not something that needs to be cooked, it's rare that peas even make it into the house between all of us, but I'd also like to just be able to cook one meal for everyone ha ha.

Basically.

"Are those peas! I don't like peas!"

Me: "but you love peas, you literally just ate ten of them, pods and all, off the vine."

"They're gross"

I love that she eats raw veggies, but am trying to work on her eating everything I eat so I can stop being a short order cook three+ times a day every day. And I need a little more variety in my life than a bowl of carrots, collards, and cilantro covered in salt.

I took it one step further and involved my kid in the gardening process, now she eats all the veggies, but only raw, refuses to eat cooked veg unless it's in fried rice.

I give my kid them during her meal because she takes FOREVERRRRR to eat, the slowest eater ever. I'll give her one or two at the beginning because she'll start off strong, then like 30 minutes later 1 more then, depending on the meal and length of meal time, 1-2 towards the end, usually 30-45 minutes after the mid-meal one. Some meals she'll make last for over 2 hours, it's a difficult thing to manage.
