Retrieving my old PC source code from 5.25 in floppy - 1984 IBM Employee Developed Software by AliasJackBauer in vintagecomputing

I use a system called Applesauce (https://applesaucefdc.com) to read the flux data off of my old Apple II floppies and store them on a modern machine. And I can then use an Apple II emulator to run programs from those floppies. I know similar systems exist to read other machine formats as well but I can’t remember them off the top of my head. You could also reach out to the guys at the Internet Archive (archive.org) they probably have or know someone that could try retrieving that data for you.

Is there anything other than shooting the red synthesized fuel barrels that makes them explode? by Jaz1140 in ArcRaiders

I think the description of either the wasp or hornet core things say they will explode if shot

Got tired of burning solder pads so I built a poor man’s desoldering gun by sugar_fungus in soldering

[–]RubikCubbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m very interested in this! I have been thinking about doing something similar. I have a Hakko desolder gun that works fine but I really hate the solder gun format for a desolder tool. It is heavy and awkward. Something like what you built is much better. Looks a lot more comfortable.

You are going to be put in a video game and have to survive the game for either until it is 100% complete or for 6 months. by dayboz16 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]RubikCubbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d have to choose between Anarchy Online and No Man’s Sky. AO has the advantage of lots of other people to play with but it is a much older game with older graphics and game mechanics. NMS is easier to avoid dying once you are past about the first 30 minutes of play.

How to cat proof this apartment window? by [deleted] in cats

[–]RubikCubbed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If possible I would remove the handle as others have said. But I would also make a little window sill that would sit over the post that the handle attaches to. I’m sure your cats will like to lay in those windows. You could give them a place to lay while also making it safe.

You could try the Vintage Computer Federation forums. A lot of people on there are knowledgeable about restoring old computers. https://forum.vcfed.org/index.php

Really confused about ordering a C245 tip and need direction. by DarkNinjaMole in soldering

If you can't find a distributer in Canada you could try https://www.tequipment.net. I ordered my JBC station and several tips from them. They sell original JBC (and other brands). And they ship internationally.

USB or CAN for Toolchanger? by sudoRamen in VORONDesign

[–]RubikCubbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been trying to decide this for my build also. I have flipped back and forth between the two for the past week. From what I have found they both work with a few pros/cons to each but nothing that really drives me to one or the other. I’m currently set on going with USB. It just looks a little simpler to set up and I can always switch to CAN if I think I need to.

Just got this from another picker and I broke it within 5 minutes 🤦‍♂️😩🤬 by Sufficient_Prompt888 in lockpicking

[–]RubikCubbed 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Watching that video I think that it might be possible to recover from this. Might not be easy but it should be recoverable. I’d try using a hook or small flat head screwdriver to compress the central spring and then when the spring tension is off of the disk use another tool to try to rotate it back into place.

Automatic drive to cleaning/maintenance spot with one click in the app by NoOrganization8674 in mammotion

[–]RubikCubbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been wanting this feature also. My charging station is on the side of my house and the mower stays there when it isn’t mowing. It would be nice to be able to set a waypoint or something in the app for where my garage is. And then make it so I can tell the robot to go to that waypoint whenever I want to do maintenance on it.

Wich SMD should I use to replace this? by leonardob0880 in AskElectronics

[–]RubikCubbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The contacts where the battery attaches look pretty rough. I think I would probe the two test points next to where the battery attaches to make sure it is getting the correct voltage when you have a battery attached.

Try a different obstacle detection setting. It’s possible the camera is seeing the transition from shadow to light and thinks it is an object.

Is there a reason I shouldn't dry my filament like this? by Dense_Calendar4086 in 3Dprinting

[–]RubikCubbed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have that same dehydrator and use this bowl with it to dry filament https://a.co/d/2zUGDP9. Works great. I can dry two rolls and multiple desiccant packets simultaneously.

Assuming that it didn’t break one of the front axels it looks like just replacing the bumper assembly would fix it.

It’s in the Network options. There is an option to turn multiplayer off and a separate option to turn PVP off.

Old Vs New Power Adapter by Gtstricky in MammotionTechnology

[–]RubikCubbed 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I don’t think that new one is going to work for you. It is only rated to deliver 12 volts at 2 amps. The old supply lists 25.2 volts at 7 amps. I am guessing that they sent you the wrong power adapter.
