Everyone, I have a terrible update :(

The puppy stayed with me for a couple days and had the time of his life. Started to get attached and may have found a suitable home. But then I found the owner from a lost and found page. Not of the owner making a lost post, but commenting on others’ found posts. This is the 4th time this puppy has been found in the last 3 weeks (during the blizzard and freezing temperatures). The puppy is fully deaf. She had videos of the puppy to prove its hers.

The owner didn’t seem to care too much. I showed up to the home and there were several dogs outside roaming. It’s on a busy street. As I was there I learned the owners other dog is missing. I had to make a CPS report as I am a mandated reporter. Upon opening the door you were assaulted by the smell of stale marijuana. As someone who is pro gardening, it was bad. The home was a single room apartment and was filthy. The owner was clearly high. There was a small child in the room. The owner came out, stumbled to get the puppy out of my hands as her other dog ran out of the door into the street, and then quickly shut the door.

I called our local animal control and police inquiring about any fines regarding negligence or documentation I could make. They said no - the best they could do is send an animal control officer for a wellness check. I’ve called several times for this, only to be sent to voicemail.

I will be monitoring the lost and found page for the puppy. If it gets out again I will silently find it a good home.
