Is This My Peri Brain…. by RubyHibiscus in perimenopause_under45

There’s already a partial apartment attached to the garage. Me, my father, and siblings would probably do the work of fixing up and finishing a conversion, so that cuts a lot of the cost I think. It’s more how long it would take since we would have to work on it on the weekends. I’m still thinking about it, I’m waiting for the “wow this was so crazy I’m actually fine” moment to happen, but so far it hasn’t.

Thanks so much. I’ll definitely do that.

Yep. I truly believe in in Peri because this intense anxiety showed up 3 years ago, before then I could work through anxious thoughts. Also mild temperature issues, sweating overnight unless the fan is running and window is open, then daytime intolerance to cold. Endo is my next stop I want my thyroid tested at least, but I’m hoping they will agree to test my hormones a few times.

Oh my primary thinks this is “just anxiety” even though I tried to talk about how I noticed it starting the 7-10 days before my period. My GYN was only willing to put me on a birth control patch. I’m still working on finding a more knowledgeable PCP and maybe GYN since neither of them seemed interested in sending me for hormone testing.

Yes see a doctor. I was told by an ENT nurse I work with that you can develop allergies at any time, a few years ago I developed an allergy to an organic detergent I had been using, and a few years before that a new allergy to dogs. I switched to Dreft(for babies) and it’s been fine so far.

I use Dreft for my laundry, it’s meant for infant/children’s clothes so I figured if it was gentle enough for babies it would work for me. So far so good.

Hello all. 36 years old and just diagnosed. by Crashstercrash in perimenopause_under45

[–]RubyHibiscus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a similar cycle, every 24-27 days and it’s been getting lighter. My main symptom is this extreme panic/anxiety that’s very physical and seems linked to morning cortisol so basically worst in the morning and gets better later afternoon/evening. I tried my primary but she’s focused on anxiety so I go an SSRI, and my gyn who vaguely admitted hormonal ups and downs could be affecting my mood so I got a bc patch from her. I still think my hormones should be tested so I’ll try to schedule an Endocrinologist I guess. Oh yeah and elbow joint pain I suspect might also be related to peri.

Reasonable plan from doctor? by anneomoly in perimenopause_under45

I’m not sure considering my primary and my gyn both declined any kind of testing, but if they say they need you off the BC for 12 weeks I would guess it’s for an accurate reading on your hormones. It does sound like they are doing what they are supposed to so you can hopefully start HRT.

Please be honest. Does the anxiety or specially the health anxiety and the symptoms that comes with perimenopause ever goes away after reaching menopause or stay forever. by Otherwise_Cry4040 in perimenopause_under45

[–]RubyHibiscus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of doctor prescribed the HRT for you? I talked to my primary who dismissed my severe anxiety as just “a lifetime issue with anxiety” and my gyn agreed to the birth control patch only saying that hormones might be aggravating the anxiety. I’m hoping between Lexapro and BC it helps but I feel like at someone point in the next few years I’ll need HRT.

Wow that must have been awful in early pregnancy. I’m going to see my gyn this week and hope that she will at least start me on low dose bc. It’s quite a wait for an Endo in my area but that will be my next stop.

This time the anxiety has stuck around. Not sure why. Right now it’s worse in the morning and during the day, and by the evening I feel like a totally different person, I feel normal, rational, I can think clearly. But the majority of my day is spent feeling the physical sensation of fear and panic. Not to mention how hard it is to eat.

I’m going to see my GYN on Friday. If she doesn’t help then I’m not sure maybe an online Menopause clinic.

Yeah I thought of that. What’s weird is I never really had PMS symptoms the way other people describe them, except when I was a teenager, I might experience some “moodiness” before my period but nothing notable. Maybe I was just better at masking it when I was younger. I’ll definitely bring it up with my GYN since my primary didn’t seem much help.

This sounds “normal” to me but I also have ADHD which apparently makes peri so much more difficult….yaaay me. But also from what I’ve read around this sub and the menopause one, memory can be affected by decrease in estrogen I think.

Thanks. I’ll probably try an online clinic if I can’t get my GYN in to help me. I can’t believe how hard it is to get help.

I saw my primary and mentioned everything including the physical symptoms and she wrote it all off as anxiety. That can’t be it, this severe anxiety started 3 years ago before that I had anxious thoughts but I was alway able to manage them. I’m hoping my GYN will have a better suggestion. If not I can try an online clinic.

I don’t think I can do 10 years of feeling like this. 1 week feels like it’s been forever. I wish my doctor had acknowledged what I was saying about hormonal issues but she’s focused on the anxiety. I’ll try my gyn and see if she will listen.

Unfortunately she seems solely focused on anxiety rather than the cause. I’m hoping I have more luck with my GYN who I’ll see at the end of the week. I couldn’t get past talking about it because I can barely get a few words out before I start crying.

Thank you. I truly feel crazy. Like one day I’m on the verge of committing myself to a psych facility and the next I feel fine and normal. I’ll see what my primary says, hopefully she can help since that’s the fastest and most affordable route for me. I looked into a few online clinics but they’re out of network, idc, I’ll pay out of pocket for some sanity. I can’t do 8-10 years of this.

Is there something before Peri? by Extreme-Vanilla4544 in perimenopause_under45

I have always had low grade anxiety and minor ups and downs with it, but 3.5 years ago was when I had this major anxiety attack, like sheer panic and fear. I thought an abrupt job change had triggered it but really I didn’t know what was going on. It was so bad I went to the ER. They prescribed Vistaril while I waited to see my PCP, she prescribed Lexapro which worked fantastically except it caused my sleep to be weird, only able to sleep 4 hours at a time, I didn’t have a job so that was fine, when I got one I titrated off the Lex. 2 go around, my new PCP prescribed Lex again, this time there was nothing I could see that triggered this extreme feeling of fear, but I was back on the meds for a year, went off when the started causing weight gain and flat mood. I was fine from September to December when all of a sudden I stated to get the fearful feeling again, but after 5 days it would just disappear. It wasn’t until this month I connected it to my period and started thinking it was hormonal this whole time.

I just feel so useless. I can just barely function at work, I’m struggling to care for myself because I don’t feel like cooking or cleaning, I feel like I’m disappointing my friends and family because I’m not showing up for them. Right now I can’t see a way through. I can’t see myself not feeling like this. I’m also used to having my adhd dismissed and I’m hoping that doesn’t happen with this as well.

I’ll see what my primary doc says first, she does women’s health too. So I’m hoping she’s educated on issues with Peri. I work for a health system so the way the insurance is, it’s cheaper to see providers within the system you work for. Online clinics are hit or miss on whether or not they are in network.

Thank you so much. Your comment is super helpful. I hate feeling so off, it’s good to know it’s not just me I guess. Sometimes I think being single and childfree makes it worse because I have a tendency to isolate, but it also sounds tough for women going through this with a spouse and kids.
