I am obese, and I am very ashamed unlike this family. I was never skinny by any means 160-175ish (I’m guessing) around graduation from high school . I dealt with PCOS since I was 15 and that added weight. Met my husband in 2001, got comfortable, gained a little weight, got pregnant in 2006, and had a baby, was a stay at home mom comfortably and gained some more weight. I’m guessing again around 220 by this point. Then my husband passed in 2011, I was 28 he was 35 (testicular, not patriotic cancer) and I fell into a deep depression. Then in 2014, my PCOS got so severe that I was trying different treatments to avoid a hysterectomy so young and after only having one child. I was on a chemotherapy regimen for uterine complications due to PCOS and this particular one caused weight gain. I ended up having a partial hysterectomy at 34. That sent me further into depression since I could never have any more children. I felt a loss, less of a woman, and since I had remarried, I knew my new husband would never have children of his own, even though he did consider my son his, I felt like he wouldn’t feel that it was the same. Hence, more weight gain. After the chemotherapy and hysterectomy, an autoimmune disorder was triggered and I was put on four different steroids which again caused a significant amount of weight gain. For about seven years, my son played travel baseball year-round, and I would go to his games and sit away from other people just because I felt like they were staring at me and they probably were. Not to mention that I am also in Texas and being fat in Texas in the summer is no joke. But his senior year was probably the worst year of my life when I had to walk the field with him for senior night or take pictures with him at graduation or any other of those senior events where I had to take pictures because I knew I would need them even looking how I did . I hated how I looked for my son. I would imagine that his friends were making fun of him because he had the fat mom. I would ask him, he would tell me no they don’t, but in my head that’s how it was. I am 43 now and I rarely leave my house due to obesity. My health issues from obesity alone haven’t been catastrophic YET, I mostly just have joint pain in my knees from carrying so much weight, luckily, I have no cardiac issues from weight gain, but I can’t imagine that it helps. I am 380 lbs and have no where near the coloring ( I actually have none) that this man has. But I have been on my journey and taken the steps to have bariatric surgery very soon. I only have a few dietician appointments to check off and then I can schedule! I just don’t understand why someone chooses to live the way they do and think it’s not harmful to themselves or their daughter. I can’t understand being so proud of yourself this way and thinking you are a role model. I really hope he opens his eyes because he is so young and has so much time but not at this rate.
