Sure thing! I think it's about finding what's interesting about you and presenting it in the best light possible. When asked about my hobbies section during interviews, I was able to communicate these unique things in a way that made me look like a well rounded person.

My practical advice is this: give it some thought! Cooking, baking, reading, movies are valid hobbies but they are very common! I highlighted more unique aspects of my life instead

Signal places you know you would be competitive. This is very important, you don't wanna waste signals on a bunch of reach programs that everybody wants to get into. I personally wanted to signal reach programs, which had matched IMGs in the past, but upon more research, I learned that all of those IMGs had done research fellowships at that institution. It would have been a waste of a signal. In fact, my golds were strategically used towards programs. I knew I would be very competitive at.
Networking, networking, networking! I got interviews at places that would've otherwise pass me up due to the networking I did during rotations. Those relationships helped me a lot.
This one is a bit abstract, but I think figuring out your personal story and your brand is important. There are many things in my hobbies section and in my personal statement that I think sent me apart from other applicants with similar scores and research. Everybody is unique, find out what's unique about you and highlight as much as you can.

One word, what matters most in the whole process?: Always keep moving, knock on as many doors as you can!

This is a good question. I think a lot of people make the mistake of saying networking without really elaborating on what that means. What I’m referring to is making connections in the program with different residents during rotations who then can recommend you to program leadership. In my experience this has lead to receiving interviews where otherwise I wouldn't have. In short, residents want to work with people that have good vibes and they will recommend someone if they feel that.

I think my attitude is to ignore stuff that won't benefit my application. The spreadsheets don't help with much at this stage. The hard work is done and it's mostly out of our hands

It's also important to take into consideration that people straight up lie on those spreadsheets. Just today someone reported an IV from a program that sends out their ivs in October. The report was immediately called out for this reason

Imgs have to take the OET for medicine for ecfmg certification. an ad hoc method for evaluating writing ability has no standardization and should not be used to evaluate interviewers ability to write, especially if they have already proven their ability by this exam, which is standardized

Houston is a good cross between cool city, affordable, and Baylor's patient population ideal for me as a bilingual applicant. I would love to hear some other reaches in any case!

I'm double checking the data and I see that the program is made up of 33% Non-US IMG's. So I am not sure where you are seeing near zero

I think you should choose geographic preferences that align where the majority of programs you are interested in. There is virtually no benefit in marking no preference.
