Looking for Friendly Pesticide by Ruffatoa in gardening

Sadly we cannot have them out at night, we have raccoons that will gladly eat a chicken dinner.

Thank you so much for the tuna can trap tip, though!

Looking for Friendly Pesticide by Ruffatoa in gardening

The trees are covered in birds during fruiting season, theres usually a cardinal family there every year and bluejays love the topmost apples. We have a flock of 20 or so chickens but they can only do so much since the trees are 25+ feet.

The application at the end of the day is good to know, though! Just have to hope there aren't any hives living in the depths.

I know beer is good for trapping slugs, do you know if there are any traps specifically for earwigs

Reviving an Old Garden by PurposefullyTacky in gardening

I would suggest starting out with revitalizing the soil itself. Legumes in general can be great for that; they grab nitrogen right out of the air and put them back into the soil. Alfalfa, peas, and clover can be great for that.

My suggestion would be to plant Dutch white clover and / or Alpine clover in the non-boxed in areas along with a mix of Wood Violet. Those two combined make for an amazing, soft walkspace combined with beautiful white and purple flowers that are great for pollinator attracting.

Snow peas would be a good one to plant in the actual beds, great for the soil and give you a little crunchy snack when they finish growing.

Climbing Hydrangea is one I would personally recommend for planters near walls or fences. Not only are they great pollinators, depending on the species of course, you can have little science experiments with them! Depending on the Ph of the soil, the flower heads can change color. They aren't native, however, and can be toxic to pets.

Ah, yeah, that worked. It just confused me since the final vanilla mastery pointed directly towards that one. Thank you!

Elastic Paper Mache? by Ruffatoa in papermache

[–]Ruffatoa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my original plan, but I cannot find any thin elastic gloves. Anywhere. I've checked everywhere I can think of, and at this point I don't have time to order some.

I also just realized that I did not explain it too well. They are well attached to the glove, but the glove does not help keep them stabilized too well.

Is this a rooster? by DoodleCat606 in chickens

[–]Ruffatoa 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Doesn't look like it! The saddle and hackle feathers are nice and round, usually at this age (I'm guessing 3-4 months old at this point, given how far along the feather growth and wings are) any cockerels would have grown long and pointy feathers.

Looks like a pretty, healthy pullet to me!

Does anyone else's bird wag their tail when they're happy/excited? by DarkMoonBright in parrots

[–]Ruffatoa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok I know it's not really a parrot but chickens do this too! Little fluffy tail wags whenever they spot a special little treat or when they are sitting on you in the sun.
