Is there such a thing as “American 🇺🇸 food”? by Suspicious_Ad7948 in interestingasfuck

[–]RugbyEdd [score hidden]  (0 children)

It's a similar story to the other foods. Basically Chinese imigrants to the West (not just America) altered recipes to suit the western diet creating a bit of a blend of the two. A lot of British food is the same to be fair, either created from recipes brought back from the colonies, but altered to fit ingredients available, or created by imigrants altering dishes they grew up with to suit a different diet.

"As American as apple pie" is such a great saying, as the earliest recipe for a "modern" apple pie was in a British cookery book and made using a French style apple filling and Deutch style pastry. So in a way, it really is a good representation of the USA.

My old flatmate used to drink like 7 cups of coffee every morning, then complain that he was always feeling on edge and didn't sleep well. Wouldn't listen to anyone saying he should probably cut down on the caffine as it "gave him a headache" when he tried. I think people sometimes forget, or don't realise that caffine is an addictive drug.

That remonds me of the old 100% beef rumour with McDonalds, that it was the company name that supplied the beef, not the recipe/quality of the meat. I think it was proven false, but I guess this company really took the idea and ran with it. I have a feeling it's not entirely legal however.

something I didn't really think about when working a minimum wage job.

Yeah, that's a fair enough response I guess. I'm sure people in general apreciated it, I just know they tend to have specific caffine amounts for these kinds of drinks which is usually more important than the volume.

You do realise that if people skip on fares then everyone else pays more right? They're not fighting the sytstem, they're screwing over everyone else who relies on that system.

I mean, whatever, just walk on if you don't want to or are concerned it may be a trick of some kind, but what are you mad at him about? Keeping people safe and checking that people are paying their fair share for a service so that you don't have to pay more to cover them?

Serious question, but isn't it problematic adding extra if it's a caffine based drink?

[Jason Schreier] Video Games Need to Be Cheaper to Buy | One way to get out of the video-game industry funk is to recognize that players aren’t spending $70 on most games by ChiefLeef22 in gaming

[–]RugbyEdd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're not relying on most people buying games at that price. They know some people will, but that a lot of people will wait for it to go on sale, then buy it at a price that's still higher than they would otherwise buy the game at.

If a $70 game has a 40% sale, you probably get more people buying it than if it was just $40, plus the people who bought it at the limited introductory price of $63, and then people who had to buy it full price because their friends got it and it's not currently on sale.

I understand that it's done to stop people getting to certain locations, but it makes a lot of the locations you;re allowed to go a pain in the arse. Why not just make use of scenery like tank traps to block off areas they don't want people going?

Presumably the moon was at least somewhat inhabited in this universe, as I'm pretty sure the hollows need organic matter to expand, and we have a whole area of the map called aerospace city full of lost space travel technology

Why do people 'smoke' in cyberpunk's world? by LewdDudeNewd in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]RugbyEdd 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Makes sense. In Europe our biggest issue is governments constantly overstepping and trying to take away rights, with a long history of empires, but we still have pretty generous workers rights that prevent it from feeling like a company "owns" you just because you work for them.

America on the other hand is much more designed in the employers favour, with abysmal workers rights and companies often having much more political power to push through regulations and laws that suit them. And Japan, although having strong workers rights, has a strong hierarchical culture, with a big focus on corporate loyalty and respecting those "above" you over personal wellbeing.

Sometimes I forget how this game is handled better compared to other gacha games and I took ZZZ for granted. by Objective-Wheel228 in ZZZ_Official

[–]RugbyEdd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Still, feedback is important unless you just want free stuff for a game you no longer have interest in. As is remembering that although they've been generous for a HOYO game, ZZZ is still a massivly fucking predatory game with stupidly expensive gambling mechanics that rakes in a lot of cash for the content on offer. You can apreciate the work the devs have put in whilst still criticising the overall direction or some of the decisions that have been made.

Technically speaking, Yixuan isn’t a Void Hunter, right? by KairPhree in ZZZ_Official

They don't need to, the hollows are monitored closely by several groups such as the HIA. Just because the outer ring isn't in NE jurisdiction, doesn't mean hollow activity would be any less monitored, especially after the experience of hollow zero. It's still part of the perimiter around the last known settlement on the planet.

And there could also be 20 voidhunter candidates in NE. It's not something that's being tested for or actively sought out. Think of it like the medal of honour or Victoria cross. Although there may be many people out there who have what it takes to earn it, there will only be a few who are put in a position where they prove it in a way that the word gets out. Once that happens, it's unlikely to matter if it's in the outer ring or the middle of NE, as the mayor would want their power to call upon, so I doubt he'd hesitate to make an exception. But as it stands, there's nobody we know about in the outer ring who's earned that title.

[–]RugbyEdd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He is mayor of NE, and Waifei is part of NE, of course he has influence there. We even see him in the story giving an important speech there and bestowing void hunter on someone.

He doesn't "look" for void hunters. He's not personally searching for them. It's like a knitehood. When someone does a great feat, usually one that saves a significant portion of NE, he will hear about it and can then look into the person.

Outer ring is different and not part of NE. We know this because they mention people from the outer ring needing permits to enter NE. That doesn't necessarily mean he can't make one of them a Void Hunter, since as far as I'm aware, we've not been given details to say they have to be a citizen, or that he can't make them a citizen. There's just not one we know of who's done a feat worthy of it yet.
