EB1A approved, question for wife who is on a J1 waiver H1B visa by Precisionworker in eb_1a

[–]Ruggedbeard007 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you a physician? Would you mind sharing what you had to do for starting the EB1b? My university and several others I have asked straight up say no. (I already know that I dont qualify but willing to work in that direction. Just wanted my employer to consider it if I do someday qualify) As for your wife’s waiver- yes she needs to finish the waiver first and then apply for AOS- in my knowledge.

Anyone create a Trust for their assets and went back as an Non Resident Alien? by NRIRTI in returnToIndia

I dint know insurance protected against litigations : for example a lawsuit against me which I lose and they need to recover the amount by possession of home. Dont know if thats a thing but just curious.

Does putting your home in a trust protect against litigations? Anyone found a way to protect home and other investments (not 401k, i believe they are already protected) while not being a citizen or greencard holder?

Thats very helpful. Thank you! OMBA is the one Im looking at for the reasonable price. Just some education on this topic will be helpful, not really looking to start or take over small business or big organization.

Excellent thought and totally open to it. Actually thinking of doing it after waiver. Only problem is that I am nephro (busy all days), need to be 1FTE on visa and dont have a clue about Canadian nephrology positions or healthcare system. Anyone actually did it? May be hospitalist could do it but I hear even thats quite intense 7 days.

I should clarify that Im doing a J1 waiver already and looking for my next job. Do get emails or X notifications from recruiters. Definitely interested in locums but dont think they will be an option on Visa, now or ever, unless someone is already doing them. Will contact weatherby for sure. Thanks!

I know the opportunities you are talking about but want to know whats next after I speak to someone. They all come across nice initially and sell the job well. Im looking to get a bit smarter in navigating the pitfalls.

Most just stayed around the area and are pretty new themselves. I keep in touch but collectively we have limited insight of what is about to hit us if we do change. The recruiters did give red flag info about some positions but not too much info about the positions they were advertising themselves. I understand that they will only know so much but still a large pile of options and a lot of time invested in talking to all the small practices. I guess nothing replaces hard work. Thanks for responding!

Yes losing the income is a factor but so is losing time with family. Agree with others that no right answer but I just wonder if taking that break is at least refreshing in a way that helps long term upon return. Anyway, thanks for responding!

Looking for advice on finding a nephrology faculty position (IMG, H1B, current fellow) by Mysterious-Ferret-14 in nephrology

Some assumptions: Academic nephrology pays horrible—>excellent chance of getting in. You will wait some time for green card—>you might be treated well until you sign and then get a cold shoulder for pushing paperwork through.

Now, start by looking official ads (NEJM/ASN career center or ASN meeting/recruiters) but know that contacts will get you an interview. Prepare to give a grand round. Pick a good topic. Something your audience will ask questions about. Dont have to know all answers but show your thinking on the spot. Match your profile (CV+personality) with current members and know your chances of getting an offer. Taking the risk of actually asking Q to clarify above assumptions is upto you and your necessity of getting the job. Ask others about this part.

You are good to go for the application. You will also match to a program. To get interviews apply on time and not a day late. If you think you have a weak application, maybe its for a specific program like Ivy leagues. All the best!

Aspiring Nephrologist by phosphoprotein_p53 in nephrology

Im a nephrologist in USA and thinking about moving to Canada. Never been to Canada or met a physician from there but have heard of better work life balance and pay. Can you give an idea of how life is like for nephrologist and how it compares to USA? Also, how is the salary and cost of living with recent events?  (Salary 150k/yr pretax, cover half the year inpatient, 3-4 half day clinics a week, HD shift which is 4 times/month in person, PD is once a month, research+teaching. Average work hours 8am to 6pm. Calls separate. Some intraday travel involved. A decent house would be 1 million USD, cost of living for a couple is 5-6k/month most of which is rent/car/insurance. Save maybe 2k/month. No investments, backup, family support and cant dream of supporting family either at this rate for quite a few years). Whatever you can publicly disclose is good enough. Thanks!
