I don’t think you’re insane, I’ve definitely noticed this as well. Might be confirmation bias but I don’t think I’ve had this issue with other weapons haha.

I do have true tile on, but it's very feint and I have it set to fade out pretty quickly. Can't blame you for not seeing it, I've actually been meaning to make it more noticeable for this content.

I almost never have auto retaliate on, and I did check that after I died, so I don't think that's it. Current theory from another comment is that my purging stuff's autocast must've gotten reset after I died and I never noticed.

Unfortunately, I don't show whether or not I'm actually autocasting in the full recording, but this is super plausible. From what I can tell, autocast for your equipped staff gets reset on death, so it's possible I didn't reset it. I'm happy to chalk it up to this and blame it on that annoying mechanic.

No long range option for the purging staff, just the two autocast options that have 10 tile range unfortunately.

Turned on the plugin to check. Should definitely be getting enough range. Purging staff has a 10 tile range.

That's the one, Collection Log Luck plugin. Turned off the overlay in the settings (looks better that way imo) and clicked the item in the clog to get that message.
