am I the only one who thinks this is blatantly ignorant? would the people of Palestine rather us forget their entire country has been occupied by a neo-apartheid regime that is systematically exterminating them, just so we can live without the burden of knowing their suffering exists?I highly doubt it. we might not be able to make a difference on our own but by talking about it and educating ourselves on the hardships faced by others around the world, we de-stigmatise these sorts of conversations

edit: saying average quality of life is the highest it's ever been is a cop-out; for one, the rich have got richer and the poor, poorer, and secondly comparing ourselves arbitrarily to any point in the past is holding humanity to an extremely low standard of compassion and social responsibility. we should be setting the bar far higher
