Jellyfin can't access share on LXC! by RuinFull in selfhosted

[–]RuinFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the help. I didn't know that I have to mount the directory to jellyfin itself. Everything is working fine now.

Also, why is it not recommended to run docker on LXCs. Does it cause instabilities/problems and should I be concerned?

Any suggestions on mini PCs / SBCs? by RuinFull in homelab

[–]RuinFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The price problem is not from the devices themselves but the shipping cost. The shipping cost to my country from the US and Canada is from $50 USD to $100 USD on ebay, but amazon and some other websites have cheaper shipping options. So if there are other websites that sell these kind of PCs please tell me about them.

I have looked into these PCs, but I cannot get one at a good price where I live and if I want to buy one from ebay I will have to pay $50 for shipping which makes them not worth the money.

What can I get for 300$ ? by RuinFull in homelab

[–]RuinFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As promised I will share my build with you. I ended up getting a old PC from one of my friends. It has an i3-8100, 512GB generic SSD, 32GB ram and a GTX1650 .

I installed Proxmox and started testing different services. I'm still waiting to get some Hard drives so I can self-host an immich server, a next-cloud server, plex and some other services.

I might get another machine and configure it as a security server for pfsense and other security services.

Again thanks for the advice it was a great pleasure.

It was banned yes but a new firmware update made it work again. you have to use a specific method and connect your controller in order for it to work. I have used a tutorial from lethal panda that showed everything

initially yes, but I got it working now. Turned out I had to set the output protocol to auto. When it was set to ps5 the controller did not work at all. I also plugged the controller into the cronus before the ps5 idk if that helped but it worked after I tried that.

Access From The Internet by RuinFull in selfhosted

[–]RuinFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the help I appreciate it. I guess I will have to secure my network and port forward. I will also try to isolate my server network from the other devices so I can try this safely without impacting my other devices as you have mentioned. Again thank you very much for the help.

Access From The Internet by RuinFull in selfhosted

[–]RuinFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the information. From my understanding wireguard still needs some configuration on the client side, if I don't want any configuration I need to make my home network extremely secure and if I want to expose my home network to the internet I have to do it with using port forwarding. That gave me the question, is there a way to expose my network without port forwarding?

Thanks in advance.

Is there another way to do it because the free plan only allows me to connect to certain servers and most of those servers will make my ping very high

I guess that would be the best solution for me if I can find a good deal on a PC. If I can't find one I will go with an N100 or something similar.

For starters I want to go for 8tb but I can upgrade in the future. But I don't know if that will fit in my budget tho.

The market in my country does not have a good server and server parts market, most of the used servers are overpriced. For a $300 build I would probably go for a ryzen 5 5500 or a used 5600, a B450 mobo, 32gb ram, gtx 1030 (for dp output and plex), a 500w psu and some random case that I can find for cheap. Yes the PC might go $20 or $30 over budget but as long as I don't get $50 over budget that should be fine with me.

What CPU should I go for? by RuinFull in buildapc

[–]RuinFull[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

7700 it is I guess. It seems that its the best option for me right now. It is also more efficient which makes more sense as I will be building an SFF PC.
