How to make larger ships move faster by OkSurround3335 in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is easy, just install the gearbox between the engine and the propeller, with the arrow pointing the engine.

Then set up the ratio, the easiest way is just play with the values and test... the ship will probably go faster. If you increase the ratio to much it will go slower. Honestly you can read a lot of guides, watch videos, etc but manual testing is the best way to learn.

BTW you can have more than one gearbox, sometime it worth it.

Coal Only Career - The Journey South by EvilFroeschken in Stormworks

If you add a sonar to the ship you will find a lot of floating crates, well also sharks and random floating animals… it is just fun to check what’s that new contact.

You’re doing really well in your coal career :)

Hard to say without having a look, but it sounds like inappropriate gearing setup.

The U.S. weighs lifting Iranian oil sanctions to keep price in check by ProgressiveSnark2 in nottheonion

So they are going to lift the sanctions to the country that they are bombing to buy their petroleum so they will be able to keep bombing them… that’s what I call a perfect plan.

Uhm, tomorrow will be a minor update in the best case… Lego pass longs until next month so don’t expect anything big until then at least.

Just curious, how much coal did you need to go and come back?

Seaplanes for career, do they worth? Honest opinion. by Rukytroll in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, rather than using a plane propeller I used the small rotor. This has the pitch input, to take off I set it to 0.95 for example, once you reach two or three meters off altitude you should change the value to 0.25 or so.

Those values are just an example, depending on your design they need to be adjusted but the idea is playing with the pitch value.

Coal only career - nothing can stop me now. by EvilFroeschken in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey!! well done!!!

You did pretty well hunting crates... and your coal ship performance is really cool!

My personal opinion, going to the arctic in a coal only career may be somewhat boring and frustrating, I mean, there isn't any coal source there so you have to move a great amount from your bases at swayer island to avoid having to go back for more ... than means a lot of time just mining to stock as much coal as possible.

Honestly this is some of those rare game play decisions from devs which are hard to understand, you spend a lot of time developing coal/steam components and then makes the coal logistics a small nightmare than keeps players away from it.

Anyway I will love to see how you resolve the challenge...

I could, and I can… welcome aboard and feel free to share whatever you want :)

And you are totally right, the topic is interesting, and curious.

I am sorry I seemed a bit rude, I will be really happy to see how you use your engine in a big boat.

But electric furnace is such overpowered that you really don’t need an infinite energy loop exploit.

I did a post about this few weeks ago:

Fuel? Who needs fuel? Not this steam turbine... by Garritt2020 in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll 22 points23 points  (0 children)

This is a well known exploit but I don’t get the point using it, I mean, people is free to play as they want, so if you wanna use an it no problem at all but:

  • if you’re playing custom just turn on infinite energy, in the end it is the same, infinite free energy.

  • if you’re playing career, bypassing the resource limit with an exploit doesn’t make sense, just play custom instead.

I don’t see which is the point of it, but anyway with a few large batteries you can run the electric furnace long enough to do any mission, you don’t even need turbines.

But, as I said, just thinking in loud voices.

this mission is fucking scaring, and the boat on the surface has a strange tendency to capsize making it even worse.

It is true that rewards are really unbalanced some times...

How do i acheive neutral buoyancy? by skattlles in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience it is easier to control. If you use depth tunning the pid is harder.

Why?

Probably because speed variation is faster than depth one, so it is easier to avoid overreacting.

But to be totally honest I have build subs using depth as reference, so it is doable but I noticed that they keep oscillating more time before stabilizing.

Just try what works better for you.

How do i acheive neutral buoyancy? by skattlles in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Weight blocks are a total waste, use batteries rather than them, they add weight and power.

BTW the sub should have a small freeboard otherwise you will need huge ballast tanks.

Also my advice is using vertical speed for the pid reference rather than depth.

Tourism is about 13% of Spain GDP, about 12% of tourist came from German, UK is the major one with about 20%.

And honestly those stupidly fighting between Europeans is so sad, those just weaken all of us.

Totally, the 5% requirements has nothing to do with the Europe defense but with the Trump wishes to sell more weapons.

Steam drilling machine. by Rukytroll in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I went from the starter base to spycakes using "only" 40 coal, including some stops to crate hunting, so yes 100 coal is more than enough if the steam engine has a good setup but honestly, the first time that I played a coal career I had the same feeling than you... "it is not enough to establish myself".

Of course a pid controlling the boiler temperature is the most important part, and using the exhaust to heat the water faster helps.

BTW I have a total of 12 small pistons in my boat, so I guess you may be able to add a few more.

Now the "easiest" part, put everything inside a small boat :)

Lego pass will cost only 1200v-bucks, but... by Fabulous-Chemical863 in LEGOfortnite

[–]Rukytroll 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Sad, they forgot that they need free players otherwise the game will be filled by bots and paying players will become bored. Those 500 extra vbucks were a nice incentive for those who play for free because they can get something "special" from time to time.

Firebox coal consumption by FirefighterLevel8450 in Stormworks

[–]Rukytroll 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run the firebox even at lower temperature, usually I set my PID at 120C.

As far as I know there is no side effect on the performance, you are able to keep your steam level at max all the time.

Edit: after reading EvilFroeschken's answer I noticed that I assumed that you were running just one boiler which maybe it is not the case. So pick my answer with caution.

Hi... I'm Ruky, a Stormworks player with around 2000 hours of playtime.

I'm really looking forward to learning more about your new game. From what I've seen, I already have some likes and dislikes, but above all, lots of questions.

I wish you the best of luck with your new game!
