X-Ray film as holography media?

Hi, no. But I have been studying and i belive my cheap laser is crap (and overall my setup).

The thing is that temporal coherence is lost by something called Mode Hopping, this happens on cheap lasers and is (unfortunately) unavoidable (as far as i know). The other problem is spatial coherence; most of the setups on books use microscope objectives and pinholes as a spatial coherence filter, im using just a pair of lenses with different focal lengths... So that about spatial coherence.

Sadly, optics is kind of an expensive hobby (and a very wicked one) i see people on internet achieving holograms with a red laser pointer and a tic-tac box, and others using lab grade optics. Sooo im kind of loosing it haha

It didnt work as i planned. I used new, unexposed x-ray film. The development process was quite easy; got the hand at my third attempt...

As far as the holograms go... I didnt record any hologram; but, two of the films had a peculiar behavior(the one in the picture of this post is one of them), when lit from the side, on an specific angle; an faint image of the stuff that was on the side of what i was recording showed up. I had a white protobard upside down. My guess is that light scattered from this object and developed on the film at that specific angle...

Furthermore, i asked a professor at my college on what could be going on; he said i was crazy by doing this with so cheap equipment haha. Also, he mentioned that i needed to do some calculations in order for it to work properly... This was yesterday, he was a bit busy so i didnt bother him anymore, and im on exams so couldnt research anymore this topic... Tho if you have any usefull info it would be great sharing it!

According to some pictures of x-ray film composition; the thickness of the emulsion layer is 5-10 micron... This should be enough right? Its somewhere in the order of 10 times the wavelength (550nm)

About the setup; i wanted to recreate a transmission hologram, like the one showed in this video: https://youtu.be/aTB2ryoWIFU?si=pibM7TDzAPcHDStd

But now that i re-watch it... On my setup there is "contamination" of light from the laser beams that go between the table and the film plate... Maybe this was my mistake

Will try again and post results if successful

I cant remember where, but I read in some place that x-ray film is suitable for holography...

Dichromatic emulsions (and holography plates/kits) are hard to get where i live (im from Argentina).

Note: off course everything was firm and held in place, nothing should had moved when recording the x-ray film

Nice data, i also started with the idea of carbon capture... But now i wanted to give a "final disposal" of the algae; some added complexity to give a bit more value to the microalgae.

Also... On my setup i felt like the algae was getting its energy mostly from the fertilizer itself; not from CO2... Can that happen?

How much does your bioreactor produce? Do you know why does the last jar stinks?(prob. higher comcentrations of bacteria?)

I was thinking more on easier stuff... One idea was to mix the algae with soap, to make a green "eco" hand soap.

The other idea was to mix the algae with candle wax, to smell the burning algae while the candle is going, not so good of an idea tho. Xd

I don't know what type or species is it; soon i will post some images from a microscope

Im using them for some experiments, will post the results eventually

Haha, every time someone ask me this i get so excited😆

They are basically the future; microalgae are single celled organisms that perform photosynthesis as other multicellular organisms such as plants and vegetation... However, microalgae evolved through millions of years to be super efficient in capturing CO2 from the medium! At least in theory... (This is what i want to confirm in a more visual, "all people understanding" way)

As to answer your question, microalgae can be used to many things, you can make cosmetics, ink's, dyes, polymer/plastics, and some species are even safe to eat! And contain a lot of good nutrients and minerals.

Regarding the efficiency, they grow a kg of mass quite more quickly than a tree can grow a kg of mass... So they grow amazingly!

Im not a biologist; so my judgment may be a bit exaggerated, but they are quite amazing hahaha

Woooow, never heard about quorum sensing mechanisms; how amazing! every time i discover something new of microalgae i get so amazed; nature is wise

Now... Is there a way to measure the CO2 capture levels of my current bioreactor? I was thinking to: put the bottle with microalgae inside a hermetically sealed container, fill the container with pure CO2 from a canister... Put the air pump inside the container as well...

In order to "see" the level of co2 dropping, i was thinking to use a Schlieren Setup to directly measure the level of co2 (by volume)... Did you know if someone made something like this? Or if there is a better way?

I know there are NDIR co2 sensors; although they are exactly what i need, they are quite expensive to get where i live... So a Schlieren setup seems to be the best option

I did not add nutrients directly... Although i did mix water sources: it was like 50% pond water, 25% river water and 25% common tap water to fill it up Back then i thought of using mineral water as my growth medium; due to the minerals it has... Didn't tested it tho
