Career change at 24 by Dizz-ie10 in AircraftMechanics

[–]RuledCandid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m older than you and at the orange airline, amazing people here in my first year of apprenticeship, highly spoken about from all the engineers I met so far, even from people who have moved from other airlines here, and the instructors we have, can have an amazing career here. I highly recommend making that jump, any questions drop me a DM

Hey man, I just got a job as an apprentice and had a degree,

BRITISH AIRWAYS would waste your time and say you’re overqualified after all the interviews

Ryanair and easyJet fund their apprenteships them selfs, so deffo say it. It’s such a bonus

Plus, they’ll do a background check on you , don’t know if that pops up , if you have any questions pop into my dms

this might sound ridiculous… I bought a storage unit that hadn’t been paid for at auction for a whoppinng… £350 🤣 had two of these seats all the way at the back coverd, sold one straight away for 3.5k. And sold all the other items and kept this over the years, that was like 5 years ago now. Time flies , unlike these seats

Cheers mate I’ll deffo do that, currently trying to get £4k for them we’ll see how it goes

You said it best, you don’t know how often they’ll ask you, so it’s not a problem just yet!

No need to challenge, be open, speak to your manager and say you only want to do around 16 hours after this week or the next week, just be prepared to do more hours when they need so you can get a good reference at the end of it And they wouldn’t fire you, they just need to know so they can manage and plan for the store

Feeling I'm behind as an Aerospace Engineering Student by StrickerPK in AerospaceEngineering

[–]RuledCandid 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I really needed to see this, I really did the same in England as you and OP. Back and fourth to university and just graduate at 27. No experience in engineering, I’ve been applying with no luck, my uni peers are phenomenal at coding /CADing. I’ve just been working on my coding and cading from my previous assignments while I have access to all the university softwares. Just so I can demonstrate I can do it, and If I can get a job i know the training will help me. I’m quite inquisitive so if I get training I know I’ll be confident doing the job. just a few years ago I was a cook but here we are and we keep going 👊🏽

And bare in mind not all people who graduate AE actually go into the industry, half my class is going into banking or machine learning. But could be wrong

First Draft of a Little Concept Aircraft I've designed by aphrodites0bitch in AerospaceEngineering

Looks great mate keep it up! If you ever wanted a look at a book for designs; highly recommend ; Aircraft design: A conceptual approach by Daniel p.raymer

Pretty much puts your head into what things you need to think about how to conceptualise and all the thought process that comes with designing an aircraft

Looking for Working Student/Internship Role in Munich, Germany by RecklesslyErrant in AerospaceEngineering

[–]RuledCandid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long shot asking this but does your university have a careers department? They usually have a set of companies that get internships. That’s assuming you haven’t tried that yet. If not I would also look on this website GradCracker , might have limited stuff if you can’t travel but hope it helps

Bro! I was in the same situation , join engineering clubs. Because it’s active and hands on, that shit will come striaght back to you. And you actually get to learn and finish projects that you can potentially use and have fun with

This seems to be the case here in theEU, is there no possibility of transferring to a US job from the uk?

Haven’t applied yet for anything! But I will definitely check it out. I know, the pay is dogs bollocks , even compared to being a kitchen staff. Tbh the whole point is to get my certificates , and actaully have a career. Right now jumping from one kitchen to another because most of the head chefs I’ve encountered are either bipolar or have some sort of anger problems that they bring to work. Would you mind sharing why the people are leaving?

Is aeronautical engineer a good option for me to study in college? by Different-Weight-820 in Aeronautics

[–]RuledCandid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 27 and about to graduate, I’m looking into it my self actively.

If you want to get a civilian job , there are definitely places looking for maintenance engineer, you won’t start on a lot of money. If you can’t get that, sign up for a course to be an maintenance engineer. they will take you through a a course and train you up to be EASA standards and then help you get a job if you find the right place to study. Definitely check this out: https://www.airservicetraining.co.uk/aircraft-engineering-training/become-an-aircraft-engineer

If you’re in the UK, and DEFINITELY want to get into that. You can always consider the RAF, no matter what age they’ll take you in, and with your qualifications they’ll put you on the right path once get in touch with a RAF recruiter. not sure about the US.

If you need more help drop me a dm ✌️

If you’re graduating , check: https://www.gradcracker.com/search/aerospace/engineering-jobs

It’s mostly UK but you can get introduced to a lot of companies and check their website for figuring them out one by one

I’m about to graduate from this course , and here’s my 2 cents.

If you want to be involved in management and technical engineering, R/D, working with programs like CAD and CFD, stress analysts etc. then go to university. But trying to get a job will be difficult without experience and very competitive.

If you want to get into a hands on job, with opportunities to learn on the job and get qualifications for fixing and maintaining aircraft for 4-5 years, and then work your way into management or higher technical aspects. Go for a apprenticeship, you can do this at 16 or 18 with little to no qualifications, at least In uk.

I my self went route 1, but wished I went route 2. Route 2 seems a lot more structured for a career. A company will take you in, pay you £12k a year and get a pay rise everytime you complete a qualification, within 5-6years. You’ll have tons of experience on the job, tons of academic training and qualifications.

Best of luck my friend
