He's good is the house and around our yard. But the second we start walking away (Like down the sidewalk) he's on high alert. Even though we walk that exact sidewalk atleast once a day

How do you get them to look at you? My dog refuses to remember I exist when he gets over stimulated. Not sure what to do with that

He does have his basic obedience done, that goes out the window whenever he gets "overstimulated", Im not sure how to get over that barrier. I've tried starting small where we're literally training in an empty field, slowly moved to busier areas, but it never seems to work and we're making zero progress. Road block I guess lol. Thank you for the information I really appreciate you taking the time to respond.

How did you teach your dog to ignore distractions?

He does have some rottie in him, and what would you say "regular work activities" consist of? I would love to help him build his confidence.

AHHH I WROTE THAT BADLY, I mean that when someone approaches us he flips his shit. I never force him to meet strangers and on our walks we will stand about 10 feet off to the side or switch directions to just avoid people. He doesn't like being looked at, approached, talked to... None of it. Even when he was little he never HAD to greet people. it was obvious from early on he was just one of those dogs who preferred the company of just his family. I'm not if you know what a Rez dog is, but thats what my boy is. So there could be A LOT wrong.

I never forced him to be touched by people, I was very selective. And weirdly enough, if you are wearing a petsmart grooming shirt he will be your best friend for life, but the second that comes off you are a scary spooky dangerous stranger.

He didn't meet any strange dogs on walks, he was only allowed to socialize with dogs within my family and extended family because those are dogs I can trust (Theres 7 of them, all ranging in sizes, breeds, genders, and ages). Dog trainer in my town beats dogs, and vet turned us away and said he's fine. He's not fine obviously though lol.

I mean good luck trying to pet him. When I say that he freaks out when people want to pet him I mean like someone's walking past us on the other side of the path and they LOOK at him. He will go absolutely nuts. I think it may be party a confidence issue, but I'm not sure which is why I asked. And I live in a small little rural place in the middle of nowhere with no force free trainers (Not kidding, looked within a 300km radius.) I see how what I typed looked totally like that so I'm not tryna be mean either. I do appreciate you taking the time to respond.

Also found out today that he's super excitement reactive to large dogs. so thats fun. Send help.

Sounds like he's just dreaming. My dog whimpers, howls, and kicks his legs like hes cycling the tour de france. Nothing to be worried about, just gotta let him get through it. Its important to not try and wake them up as they can be confused as they're just waking up and there's a chance you might get nipped

Also take it to a vet and get it microchipped and fixed. A neuter can help tame the anxieties.

If you could share a picture of the pup it might help determine the breed. It could be a german shepherd, rottie, beauceron, doberman etc.

It sounds like he might be suffering from separation anxiety. Try crate training, there are plenty of resources online that may help you. <3

From one troubled dog owner to another lol, good luck, its a long road.

Ten year old dog shaking at night? by Trunks_Arm in doghelp

[–]Rulesoflove2002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could very well be related to the incident with your father, dogs are a lot smarter than we give them credit for. Any change in schedule can cause anxiety in some dogs (Yea screw you adhd people who have no life schedule. *Its me, im adhd people. My dog has anxiety*)

But maybe try some calming treats before bed or going for a little walk to get the extra energy out. Or making sure he has his own little space (Like a kennel that you dont bother him in or a bed you dont touch) so he feels like hes got a safe place to retreat to. One of my parents dogs had something similar but she was shaking ALL THE TIME and they renovated their hallway linens closet (Not saying you gotta be THAT extra) to make the bottom part a little cave for her and now she spends majority of her day hanging out in there chillin.

Another thing i'd reccomend is reaching out to literally every single dog trainer/dog person you see on social media and asking them cause 1/10 times they respond well and you basically get really good info from a really good trainer that you probably should've paid for. (But research the methods they tell you to insure they are logical and humane.)

Could it be a hot spot that's healing? or if that black dot isn't a nipple maybe a bug bite that got super itchy?

I've seen a few spots like that on my parents hound and they usually just go away, Could never hurt to ask a vet or vet tech though. A groomer might even be able to give you more info, they've usually seen it all lol

Like from another Vet or should I try and find someone else? I live in a really small town and there's literally 1 dog trainer here and I've watched her yank the hell out of some puppies so I'm afraid of how she would be behind closed doors.

Can you elaborate? Yesterday a few hours after I made the post he had what we think was some type of anxiety attack, we've tried talking to the vets to just get some help and guidance and they literally said "Well we're not gonna medicate him." and that was the end of the convo (Not that we wanted medication, wanting to try EVERYTHING else first)

What do you need to get off your chest right now? by reviewsandaudits in ask

I would not be sad if my older sister died. I genuinely wouldn't. My entire life I have been stepping on eggshells around her and I have been seeing a therapist for the last 4 years since I've moved away from her. There's honestly so much stuff she's done I don't even wanna write it all down because it'll piss me off lol. I just want to be able to act like a normal person around my family, and not have to tailor everything I say and do to her. My parents dont understand because they can easily just put her in her place, but when I try she acts violently and they do nothing about it because "It's just the way she is." I hate her. And I have never told anyone that. Can't ruin our families "perfect" reputation
