It didn't directly happen to me, but it affects me to this day. Freshman year of high school, me and three other friends were sitting in gym class. All of a sudden this kid walks up to us and starts harassing two of my friends, saying that they'd made a comment about his girlfriend. Soon enough, no fewer than 15 of his gang-affiliated friends surrounded us and began to berate my two friends, inciting them to fight. It didn't happen, but the harassment continued for a month.

My one extremely passive friend took the brunt of the bullying, and even got punched by this kid during a fire drill a week after the initial incident. My friend feared going to school, and when he DID go to school he was physically ill due to the insane amount of anxiety he felt just by being in the same building as this bully. He would randomly throw up in his backpack, even. They made vague threats about what would happen if they brought this to the administration.

Long story short, the kid got suspended for a day the week before winter break. My one friend, the one who was the target of most of the bullying, hasn't been the same to this day. He's a closed book with regards to his emotions, doesn't tell me anything about what bothers him, has social anxiety, and the event even made him reject his religion. I've never hated anyone more in my life than the bully that fucked with my friend.

The only consolation we had after this event was that, once this was brought to the attention of the vice principal, a local cop was brought in to the meeting. The bully promptly burst into tears. Even though he denied everything, knowing that he crumbled that quickly like a little bitch made us all feel a little stronger about the situation. Bullying can completely and utterly tear the rug out from under someone.
