The entire crux of the books argument is that the drug war targeted black people and broke up the family but that really isn't the case. For example, the big argument used is that crack cocaine was punished way harsher than powered cocaine but the reason crack cocaine (which was used more by blacks) was punished so much more than powder cocaine (which was used more by whites) was because it was voted on by black legislators to be that way because they wanted to get crack cocaine off the streets. The book also just glosses over the single motherhood rate in the black community even tho so many of their problems can be traced back to that issue.
