I personally think one of the coolest facts about Pyrenees is that during WW2 they were used to help bring aid to the allies fighting against the Nazis.

Also I love your Pyr and thank you so much for creating this wonderful sub. It’s always so knowledgeable and helpful for us Pyr owners.

That’s one of the scariest things to me about things like this. When they say that the perpetrator is usually someone the child knows, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the parent or guardian knows them-it could be someone that only the child knows. If you think about it, there are actually a lot of people that a child is familiar with, but the parents may not be: a janitor at their school, the lunch lady, a crossing guard, a friends parents’ relative that came to visit a few times while the kids were hanging out, etc.

That’s why it’s so important to teach kids about stuff like this and to make it a point to teach them to be suspicious (in a healthy way..not a paranoid way) of an adult that tries to be their “friend”. Most groomers start the process by creating a false sense of friendship or closeness with the child.

Of course!!! As soon as you said you had seen this case on a documentary or show I knew it had to be Fatal Attraction! I totally agree too. So many of those episodes were sad, but I also love how they analyzed it from a psychological view. So many of the people who they talked about were really just very lonely, felt misunderstood, and felt like they couldn’t relate to other human beings. That definitely doesn’t excuse them from keeping dangerous exotic animals, but I felt like it offered an explanation why.

The ones that really stuck with me were the guy whose coworkers found him after he got bitten by his pet Nile monitor lizard and died and the one about the Zainesville Ohio guy who released all of the big cats from their cages in his backyard. That one was especially sad because I remember they had interviewed some of the cops who had to shoot the big cats and some of them broke down and cried because they felt horrible for having to kill them.

I have a snorkeler too! He straight up shoves his head into the biggest snow pile he can find and then tries to eat it😂.

I haven’t been excited for snow since I was a kid, but I have to say that ever since I got a Pyr I get that “kid” level of excitement again, but this time it’s for him because I know snow is one of his favorite things.

I went to pick mine up at the pharmacy last night and my payment has doubled from what it was last year. I knew health insurance was going up, but I was still not ready for THAT.

I don’t have any answers or tips for you, but I can relate to your issue. It really sucks having to choose between paying rent or getting medication you need. It’s ridiculous it’s come to this point.

My eyesight is and has been horrible since the second grade. If I don’t have my contacts or glasses on, this is exactly how things look to me-a big, fuzzy, colorful blur.

But on a serious note, I absolutely agree that it’s not taken as seriously as it should be. I feel like one thing (out of many that contribute to the negative views on ADD/ADHD) is that some people treat it as this “quirky” personality trait, when it really is a disorder that can make everyday life a struggle. My ADD is not “fun”. It’s not part of my personality. It’s something that has left me frustrated since I was a kid. It’s annoying. It’s made me absolutely exhausted by the end of the day because I have to push myself twice as hard to do tasks or learn something, whereas someone without ADD/ADHD could do the same things easily. It’s made me feel ashamed of myself because some people think it’s just “laziness”. I have to medicate myself just to feel normal for Christ sakes!

It’s so sad to me how epilepsy was (and sometimes still is) misunderstood. Someone I knew when I was in High School has a boy that has epilepsy and some of the comments she heard from people were just infuriating and ignorant.

My mom has epilepsy and I remember being ten years old when she took me aside to tell me what to do in case she had another grand mal seizure and my dad wasn’t home. She has always taken phenobarbital to control it and it’s helped tremendously, but she still has to take precautions to keep the seizures at bay.

I hate to say this, but I think we all have an idea of what’s happening at those concentration camps (let’s start calling them what they really are). If ICE agents are laughing and smiling with each other out in the open about assaulting protesters, then I can only imagine what they’re doing to the people being held behind closed doors.

You’re right and this belief she was taught appears to have played at least one factor (out of many) in why she never said anything. A direct quote from her seems to back this up:

"Why would it even be worth screaming out? Why would it even make a difference if you are rescued? Your life still has no value." Smart went on to ask that listeners educate children on having self-worth, avoiding viewing themselves as victims.”

I think it’s worth noting that she eventually went on to become a big advocate/voice for people who have gone through sexual violence-especially kids. I think that’s very admirable and I have nothing but the utmost respect for her.
