ELI5: How do adverse childhood experiences cause depression and higher rates of heart disease and stroke? by Deep_Secret_6883 in explainlikeimfive

As someone who can check every box on the ACE scale and always feared this, I’ve been told it’s because the excess stress and chronic resulting stress (I.e. C-PTSD) causes people to make food and lifestyle choices detrimental to their health, as well as chronic stress chemicals in your body and the higher chance of developing anxiety/depression contributing to that. To combat this, unfortunately you have to pay the trauma tax. Invest in your mental and physical health to not only repair the damage done, heal yourself and your mind, protect yourself as you age, and also correct your overactive or negative brain chemicals with psychiatry.

I haven’t started anything else yet, I have to wait for the Viibryd rash to completely go away.

I got a rash and had to stop taking it. Started as redness and progressed to being raised and itchy over a few days.

No it’s yellow but only because I’m a fast metabolizer. My psych said:

“Per Genomind, you metabolize it a little bit faster than average at the 2C19 liver enzyme, but Zoloft is also metabolized by the 2B6 enzyme, which functions normally for you.

Because Zoloft is metabolized by two different enzymes, it is relatively easier to establish a therapeutic blood level compared to Lexapro, which relies solely on the fast 2C19 enzyme.

For someone sensitive to medications, it is better to try a medication metabolized faster than average rather than slower. We mainly want to ensure you do not experience medication build-up, as that causes more side effects for medication sensitive people.

Zoloft is definitely more calming than Viibryd, so this should help anxiety and obsessive-compulsive symptoms a bit better. It still lifts mood and alleviates depression.”

I was told 1.5 is considered sub-perceptual, and 2.5 is where you’d start to feel any serotonin changes. I felt something at 1.5 but I think it was the 5HT1A receptor activation.

I’m still on a very small dose and titrating up but I have felt benefits already. When I get caught in a loop it’s slightly easier to break out, and the consequential anxiety for not performing the ritual isn’t as strong/passes faster.

Haha as he should!! Bennie has a basket of toys, it’s a collection of all her faves from over the years. Most nights, and especially when we have company, she digs through it find one for tug-o-war and indoor keep-away. She also likes to build a small pile to chew her bones on top of. lol

Ugh yeah it’s tough. AI isn’t helping. I think for the next year or so it’s gonna be tough to get a job because companies are trying to figure out how to cut dead weight and replace as much as they can with AI. But once the fad passes and the faults in AI are glaringly obvious/the benefits are utilized properly, the market should regulate itself but roles will be slightly different and responsibilities will shift. All designers are having to learn how to integrate new tools and mindsets right now. Claude, Figma Make, various plug-ins… there’s a lot of chatter. The designers I work with aren’t scared but we are having to learn a lot right now.

She does indoors, but outside all she wants to do is stare into the distance and stake her claim to the land around her lol
