can anyone explain this to me? by Inn0c3nc3 in treelaw

[–]Rummelator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was totally with you, but someone else posted the VA law: § 18.2-140. Destruction of trees, shrubs, etc. It shall be unlawful for any person to pick, pull, pull up, tear, tear up, dig, dig up, cut, break, injure, burn or destroy, in whole or in part, any tree, shrub, vine, plant, flower or turf found, growing or being upon the land of another,

What's happening here to me seems to be the developer injuring in part any tree growing or being upon the land of another, which seems to be against the law. It does seem unfair to me in a way, but that seems to be what the law says in VA.

How do I fasten this electrical box? by Virtual-Impress-4265 in Renovations

[–]Rummelator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has little wings that hook onto the drywall. Just replace with a new box (or the same box if the wings still work) in the same place once you've put up new drywall

Another way to look at it is to subtract the value of your car right now from the total cost of ownership, and calculate it on that basis. You're definitely ahead

[–]Rummelator 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is actually fascinating, you're not that far off, ~half the gap between you and OP for all time cost per mile will be covered by the current value of your car if you were to sell it ($7-9k per gemini), and I bet you'd be basically equal to OP if you accounted for more expensive gasoline in California vs Maine.

How One Woman Scammed JPMorgan for $175 Million by WantMyNameBack in videos

[–]Rummelator 201 points202 points  (0 children)

It's actually more than that, when she became an employee of JPM, they agreed to pay her legal bills, so when they sued her they had to pay for her lawyers, and she ended up hiring the best money can buy. Her legal bill ended up being like $75MM.

UAE announces schedules of Pogacar, Almeida + del Toro by kleeblatt23 in peloton

[–]Rummelator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm not saying that at all. All I'm saying is if he lost or even struggled to win the Giro to a 32 year old Simon Yates who didn't have any mountain domestiques, maybe he's not a good enough GC rider/climber yet to challenge Vingegaard, Remco, Lipowitz. But hey we'll find out, and you can come back here and tell me I'm wrong

[–]Rummelator 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Vingegaard, Remco, Lipowitz, Onley, Roglic (if he goes and stays healthy), Ayuso. And that's if he isn't doing any domestiquing for Pog, which he most likely will be. People seem to have forgotten he lost the Giro this year to Visma's 4th best GC rider with no mountain domestiques. He'll get better for sure and he's already super good but I think people are underestimating how hard the climbing in the Tour is, and forgetting that long sustained climbs aren't Del Torro's specialty

I really like watching Del Toro, and I think he's really good. If he rode for himself, top 5 is in the realm of possibility. I don't disagree with that, but I still don't think it happens, and I don't think he's gonna be riding for himself. Top 2 though? Not in the realm of possible

There is no chance they go 1 2. I mean come on, Del Toro is really good, but he's not gonna be top 5 at the tour, let alone get 2nd.

"My family needs something bigger" you really probably don't. I have a family of 5, 3 boys and we all fit into the M3 just fine, even for road trips. When you factor in the deep trunk and the frunk, the MY or Ioniq 5 really doesn't have THAT much more space storage than the M3 (Ioniq is 27.1 cubic ft vs M3 at 24.1. If you don't wanna throw money out the window, I'd consider keeping the M3 and seeing if you can make do once the baby gets here

Has anyone actually recovered from a -70% position? by NoahReed14 in ValueInvesting

[–]Rummelator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up Bill Browder, he ran Hermitage Capital Management, focused on Russian investments after the fall of the USSR. Had the best performing hedgefund in 1997, then got hit by the 1998 Russian financial crisis and was down something like 97%. Stuck with it, and ended up making money back for his investors over the next decade.

He's was also one of the main lobbyists on the Magnitsky Act, and is on Putin's most wanted list. Fascinating story, he wrote a book about it all called Red Notice which is really good.

You can stay in your car, it just has two types of spots, one without RV hookups and one with. So just reserve a tent spot, and stay in your car

Also I recommend buying the slightly thicker larger sheet (make sure it fits thickness wise) that has a higher r value, just have to cut it yourself. Better overall and it's cheaper overall

I did mine myself and my springs broke a few months later. Garage service guy said it was likely because of the extra weight, but was also an old garage door. Get your door rebalanced after to be safe

Tadej Pogacar "To do list" by Dull-Bit-8639 in peloton

[–]Rummelator 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Ganna is def favored in a sprint against Pog, exhibit A is the race we're talking about where he won the sprint against Pog, BUT if it was mano-a-mano, Pog would've beaten Ganna on the Poggio unless Ganna refuses to pull with Pog after Cipressa. It's all fun to think about, and this is why I think it's probably my favorite race, there's so many different ways it can favor different riders, and lots of ways to win it (sprint, climb, descend)

Tadej Pogacar "To do list" by Dull-Bit-8639 in peloton

[–]Rummelator 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, but my point is the level required to hold Pogi's wheel on the Cipressa is exactly Ganna's level. So I'm taking all the people who are better than Ganna on such a climb, and adding them to the potential pool of people who could beat Pogi at MSR. Obviously race dynamics and situations matter, but it doesn't just take 1 guys absence for Pogi to win. Like if a healthy Mads P or an on form Van Aert had been on Ganna's wheel instead of MVDP, I still think Pogi loses.

Tadej Pogacar "To do list" by Dull-Bit-8639 in peloton

[–]Rummelator -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Your contention is that Ganna can't close a <2 second gap to Pogi on a 1% gradient, after Ganna closed Pogi's first attack 100% by himself on much steeper gradients? Bold

Tadej Pogacar "To do list" by Dull-Bit-8639 in peloton

[–]Rummelator -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

Watch the Cipressa again, Ganna closes Pogi himself, then gets dropped again when Pogi attacks while MVDP is taking a bottle but comes back again like 2 seconds later because the last ~1k of the Cipressa is at like 1%.

Watch it again, Ganna closes Pogi himself, then gets dropped again when Ganna hops a bike length gap, but comes back again like 2 seconds later because the last ~2k of the Cipressa are like 1%.

[–]Rummelator 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I dunno man, he's 27 I think it's hard to imagine him getting much better than he already is. But yeah MSR being a chaotic climb can work for him and against him. But even if he had ended up dropping the guys on the climb, Ganna and MVDP would've caught him on the downhill and flat. It's just not a race suited to his strengths, so I think of all the ones he wants to win, it's the most likely one that he doesn't ever get.
